The Lethbridge Public Library is looking for an experienced, positive, energetic Facility Services Assistant who is committed to delivering top quality customer service, being flexible to meet organizational needs and fostering a supportive team environment.

Your Average Day At LPL Includes

  • Performing regular cleaning routines, based on established standards and schedules. This includes but is not limited to cleaning, vacuuming, mopping, raking and bagging leaves, shoveling snow, moving furniture, boxes and other materials, and disposing of garbage.
  • Responding to immediate cleaning needs identified through general inspection, customer concerns or staff referrals.
  • Replenishing washroom, copier and other sundry supplies.
  • Ensuring that meeting rooms are prepared for public/staff bookings, which includes table and chair set up and removal, responding to the needs of the public/staff during programs and cleaning rooms when meetings end.
  • Assisting the Manager with general maintenance issues within the facilities and grounds, including the control and removal of hazards such as excessive ice and snow.
  • Informing the Managers of Maintenance & Facilities and Branch Services of any emerging issues or requirements with respect to cleaning standards or general maintenance at the Main and The Crossings branches.
  • Assisting in the provision of general building security and assisting security as required.
  • Operating the Library van to make general deliveries, which can include moving and lifting heavy boxes and other materials.
  • Performing other related duties, as required.

What You Need To Bring To This Position

  • High School diploma. Related training and/or experience is an asset.
  • Previous custodial or cleaning experience is an asset.
  • Customer service or other experience working directly with the public is an asset.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English and demonstrate good listening skills
  • 1 to 2 years’ experience providing general cleaning and maintenance services, preferably in a public setting
  • A valid, class 5 Operator’s license
  • Demonstrated proficiency with general office computer use and basic troubleshooting
  • Ability or aptitude to use industrial cleaning equipment
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently while paying strict attention to detail
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of individuals and to be culturally aware, non-judgmental and sensitive to the needs of a variety of individuals with differing backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated decision making skills and the ability to exercise good judgement in the best interests of Lethbridge Public Library at all times.
  • Time management and planning skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Hours of work and location:

  • Up to 75 hours bi-weekly, including day, evening and weekend shifts.
  • This position is casual and has no regular or guaranteed hours. The non-permanent workforce is used to supplement the permanent workforce and may be required to be flexible to cover shifts on evenings, weekends and with little notice.
  • Working at all branches and reporting to the Manager: Maintenance and Facility Services

Salary Range

$22.44 to $26.53 hourly, in accordance with wage progression steps outlined in the current Collective Agreement (CUPE Local 70 (Library Employees))

Notes

  • The successful candidate must complete a Police Information Check prior to the start date.
  • The successful candidate must provide proof of a valid Class 5 driver’s license prior to the start date.
