Scope

Parks Facilities Services Team is looking to add a full-time Park Technician - Mechanical/Plumbing team member to their amazing growing team. City of Surrey is Canada’s Greenest Employer and we continue to strive to make this city a better place for our community.

Responsibilities

In this position you will perform technical work in planning, coordinating and implementation of maintenance activities and renovation projects, related to the mechanical infrastructure systems within the City’s parks inventory. The Park Technician will perform hands-on field work in all weather conditions; perform fieldwork in accordance with accepted standards, techniques and practices; manage programs and projects within approved budgets; administer contracts as needed to achieve desired outcomes.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising and performing mechanical/plumbing repair and replacement projects using such tools as soldering torch, pipe cutter, pipe bender, mechanical drain augers and various other small power tools, in compliance with approved plumbing systems within the BC Building Code. This would include, but is not limited to, obtaining permits, restoration of parkland structures such as washrooms, waterparks, mechanical room components, water service chambers, storm drainage utilities and obtaining permits, in addition to other related trade duties as required.

Qualifications

Completion of a Diploma program from a recognized post-secondary institution, with a minimum of 3 years related experience, OR completion of grade 12 supplemented by a relevant Trades Qualification supplemented by 3 years of related progressive experience, OR completion of grade 12 and a related Technical Certificate Program (one-year full time) from a recognized post-secondary institution with additional related academic courses and training including at least 1 credit course in each of supervision and technical writing supplemented by 4 years of related progressive experience. An acceptable equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.

You also must have the following:

  • A valid B.C. driver’s license with a safe driving history.
  • A Pesticide Applicator’s License is required to be obtained before the completion of probation period.

You will use your advanced problem-solving skills to effect on-site resolution of project related challenges. Your thorough knowledge of applicable statutes and building code regulations will ensure your success in this role. Other responsibilities include maintaining accurate and up-to-date maintenance and project renovation records and files.
