Safety and Security Monitor

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the school administrator, the Safety and Security Monitor will monitor student traffic in and around the school building. By serving as a resource and liaison to a diverse student population, the Safety and Security Monitor promotes an inclusive, safe, and caring environment where students are supported to reach their fullest potential.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• To become acquainted with the student body and to monitor student traffic in and around the school building

• To serve as a resource person and liaison to at-risk population

• To serve as an adult presence in the school and become the first contact to students and buffer to school expectations and daily operations

• To assist in prevention and intervention strategies for potential crisis situations

• To report to teachers on supervision any special circumstances that need to be addressed

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:

Qualifications

• Quality interpersonal skills with an excellent track record of working effectively with high school age students

• An excellent memory for student names and school schedules

• Upon hire, external applicants must supply a Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Search, and a cleared Child Abuse Registry Check, as conditions of employment.

Skills and abilities

• Ability to intervene in potential crisis situations to help de-escalate emotional levels of students

• Good communication skills to work with a large diverse population of students and staff

• Ability to think clearly and recognize and analyze situations and problems that need to be referred to school staff

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

Physical demands:

• Standing for extended periods of time

• Sufficient vision and hearing to perform related job duties

Working conditions:

• Exposure to frequent interruptions with conflicting demands and varied deadlines

• Exposure to noise

Pay: $20.28-$25.23 per hour
