What this role is all about:

The primary purpose of this role is to provide high-quality financial advice and services to meet the needs of new and existing members. This is done by actively engaging members at their first point of contact to identify their financial needs and then promoting personal banking solutions along with meeting member’s core transactional needs. The Money Advisor maintains and grows the member portfolio by identifying members’ needs and referring them to our business partners as appropriate. The successful incumbent has an entrepreneurial spirit and takes personal initiative.

This role is based out of our beautiful Main Street Branch, located in Vancouver, BC.

You will find success based on your ability to:

  • Emulate Beem Credit Union philosophy of finding practical solutions for our members in the four quadrants of Plan, Save, Borrow and Protect
  • Proactively engage members, actively listening to their financial needs and finding solutions that anchor the relationship with Beem Credit Union
  • Develop, build and maintain the member’s full relationship by providing optimum service
  • Educate and transition members to appropriate alternate delivery channels
  • Accurately complete service routines while identifying best practices and efficiencies
  • A self-starter who takes pride in delivering, tracking and being rewarded for a high level of performance
  • Be a relationship builder who can develop internal and external relationships
  • Be passionate about building community relationships with your Beem Credit Union team and the community
  • Have the due diligence, business acumen and knowledge of Beem Credit Union’s policies and the regulatory environment to ensure we safeguard the company’s assets
  • Taking professional pride in the branch premises and yourself ensuring that the member experience the best Beem Credit Union has to offer when they enter the branch.

Specific Accountabilities

  • Provides account services to members, and process general daily banking transactions.
  • Opening personal accounts and ensuring information is accurately input. Processing of additional products associated with opening accounts, cross selling related products.
  • Build full money relationships by analyzing member needs and finding solutions. Outlining benefits, alternatives and advising on the best product and service match; actively cross selling credit union products to increase product and service penetration per member.
  • Conducting interviews with members to identify lending needs. Collects and compiles information relating to member loan applications, including personal financial statements, assets including real estate holdings, deposits, mutual funds and registered funds at other Financial Institutions. Conducts telephone and other credit checks. Makes recommendations concerning loan applications based on established lending principles.
  • Sells, prepares and ensures accurate processing of deposit/investment products and services including Term Deposits, RRSPs, RRIFs, RESPs and related transactions, and the withdrawal of the aforementioned. Monitors and handles the re-investment of special rate term deposits.
  • Looks for opportunities to consolidate business from other financial institutions and strengthen banking relationship with Beem Credit Union. Refers members to Beem Credit Union Insurance and Wealth Management staff, when appropriate.
  • Resolves problems with member’s accounts and deposit instruments using sound judgment to make timely and effective decisions that consider both short- and long-term risks, impacts and outcomes.
  • Reviews all reports as assigned to identify variances and required action; refers problem areas to Management for resolution.
  • Composes routine member correspondence.
  • Makes outbound calls for mortgage and deposit product renewals as well as marketing campaigns as assigned to increase retention and member product penetration.
  • Establishes a high personal standard of performance by contributing to Branch metrics and service standards and actively participating as a team player in all branch programs, including driving your own development and career.

  • Members and potential members.
  • Other credit unions, banks and trust companies.
  • Central 1 – Clearing, Treasury, Funds Transfer, etc.
  • Suppliers and Vendors – cheque supply companies, cash suppliers, alarm companies, stationary suppliers etc.
  • Government and Regulatory Bodies such as Revenue Canada.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of financial principles and ability to apply relevant policies as well as legal and regulatory principles in the conduct of business activities.

Education & Experience

  • Minimum 2 – 3 years job related experience
  • Back to Basics - Lending Program
  • Financial Planning I to be completed with 6 months of start date
  • A degree in Business Administration or related area is preferred
  • CUIC 210: Consumer & Residential Mortgage Lending is preferred
  • A combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Ability to speak Mandarin and/or Cantonese will be a definite asset
