Position Summary
The Supervisor, Recreation Facilities (Large Venue Entertainment Centre) is responsible for supervising the operations, maintenance, and service delivery of the City’s premier entertainment venue, located at 1 Tragically Hip Way. This facility hosts Ontario Hockey League (OHL) games and large-scale entertainment events, requiring seamless coordination with prime tenants, contractors, and a third-party management company under a hybrid operational model.
This role ensures the venue operates at peak efficiency, meets high maintenance standards, and adheres to safety regulations. The Supervisor leads a team of unionized staff and contractors, supports the delivery of training for the facilities teams, manages the City’s ice master schedule, and oversees event logistics. Additionally, the position supports the operation of Springer Market Square, including rink operations and seasonal activities. The portfolio may be adjusted from time to time to include supervising the operation of other municipal ice rinks and facilities.
Develop and implement standards and systems to optimize facility functionality and maintain a high operational standard.
Oversees Game Day Operations (OHL Hockey Games) and coordinates venue use and set up activities between various parties for entertainment events with stakeholders.
Participates in the budgeting process, provides recommendations for operating and capital budgets. Responsible for monitoring schedules including oversight of the arena master schedule, expenditures, and adherence to budgets.
Manage contracts, analyze facility schedules and revenue, optimize operations.
Implements preventative maintenance programs for recreation facility specific systems (arena refrigeration plants) to improve reliability and life of equipment and infrastructure, ensure consistent costs, reduce health and safety risks, unexpected equipment failure and downtime.
Develops and oversees facility audits and monitors record keeping ensuring compliance with legislation and City policies and procedures.
Ensure work is completed safely and in compliance with OH&SA and City policies and procedures. Communicate and inform staff of changes in legalisation and internal policy/practices and address concerns.
Maintains positive working relationships with key stakeholders including prime tenant, third-party management company and sports organizations and event agencies.
Interpret and apply Collective Agreement in executing operational functions and to support a positive working relationship between union staff and management.

Qualifications,Competencies
Degree or Diploma in facilities management or sports management or a related field
3 years supervisory experience in a recreation facility
Business administration experience, encompassing operations and budget oversight, positive employee relations, customer service and risk management
Experience implementing preventive maintenance programs to ensure optimal facility performance
Skills, Abilities,Work Demands
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong organizational skills and effective problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize work in a demanding environment
Create and manage complex schedules
Experience supervising staff in a unionized environment
Knowledge of recreation facility operations, and current industry standards
Financial acumen including budget management, revenue generation and cost optimization
Knowledge of related acts and the application of legislation including the Occupational Health & Safety Act, relevant CSA and TSSA standards
Demonstrated conflict management skills and methods to reduce tension or conflict between two or more people
Ability to research, analyze, and formulate solutions to complex issues
Experience creating and monitoring budgets
Valid class “G” driver’s licence
Required to obtain and maintain a satisfactory criminal record check, including vulnerable sector
Must be available to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to support OHL games and event transitions before and after shows
Working between different locations daily
Required to work on-call including evenings and weekends, also some extended hours to support the operation/special events including nights and weekends
