Laboratory Biochemical Geneticist

Shared Health is seeking a Laboratory Biochemical Geneticist (1.0 EFT) to serve hospital-based laboratories throughout Manitoba, as part of a team with Clinical Biochemists. The successful candidate will be located in Winnipeg at the Health Sciences Centre. Our laboratories serve patients in both hospital and community settings.

Reporting to the Clinical Biochemistry Medical Director, the ideal candidate will be highly motivated, willing to work both independently and in team settings, and have excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational skills. Excellent analytical and interpretive skills are required. Experience with LC-MS/MS is required, successful applicant will need to able to develop and troubleshoot LC-MS/MS and GC-MS methods. Knowledge of interpretation of Organic Acids, Amino Acids, Carnitines and Acylcarnitines is required. Successful candidate will be required to support good laboratory stewardship. The successful candidate will have the ability to set up, maintain, conduct repairs and troubleshoot the equipment. Candidates must have a PhD and be Fellows of Canadian College of Medical Geneticists in Laboratory Biochemical Genetics or eligible for certification. Individuals with certification from the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics in Biochemical Genetics will also be considered.

Service responsibilities of this position will include test interpretation, quality oversight, equipment/method selection and validation, pre-analytical processes, policy and procedure development and review, quality improvement, appropriate test utilization, communication/liaison with physicians, nurses and allied health professionals, Regional Health Authorities and clinical programs. Academic responsibilities include providing CME for staff and physicians; teaching in our CACB accredited post-doctoral training program in Clinical Biochemistry and other medical residency and student programs; collaborative or independent research. The successful candidate is eligible for a faculty appointment with the University of Manitoba.
