Overview:
The Controller provides the Finance Director, VPGM, General Manager, Operations Managers and staff with full and appropriate financial management information and strategic support including budgeting, forecasting, capital requests. Also provides effective management of the finance, administration, credit and computer departments in accordance with company policies, GAAP, tax laws, etc. This is a temporary position for 1 year.
Responsibilities:
- Provides financial support for Finance Director, Performance, VPGM, General Manager, Operations Managers
- Interprets events and activities from a financial perspective. (monthly, quarterly, annually)
- Manages Accounting, Credit, Information Systems and Administration personnel.
- Maintains proper financial and accounting controls.
- Consolidates budgets and forecasts and target exercises.
- Works closely with the General Manager on monthly target exercises.
- Assists the General Manager with business strategy issues.
- Participates in Regional and Corporate Initiatives as required.
- Coordinates legal matters as necessary.
- Provide informative, timely, and reliable financial information for local senior management and regional corporate office.
- Ensure correctness of balance sheet accounts.
- Monitor adherence to purchasing and accounts payable procedures.
- Ensure all Minimum Control Standards (Internal control) systems are adhered to
- Ensure accuracy of GST billings and payments.
- Oversee adherence to company policies.
- Provide support for human resource management and employee benefits to all salary and executive employees. To include bonus administration and funding, and Merit support.
- Interface with outside consultants, customers, and vendors
Results/Accountabilities:
- Contributes to attainment of EBIT, CFFO and ROIC.
- Develop and maintain proper internal controls in accordance with the Group MCS.
- Provide financial management support for senior management.
- Effective flagging of business issues based on financial analysis.
- Develops and maintains a customer focused finance department.
- Co-ordinate internal audit.
- Staff development.
- Participates in the development of the strategic direction of divisional goals.
- Effective relations with Operations Managers.
- Continuous improvement of operating efficiencies.
- Contributes to maximize asset utilization.
- Effective management of human resources.
Qualifications:
Education and Work Experience:
- Undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting or Business
- 5+ years of financial management experience with increasing responsibility and complex roles
- Professional accounting designation preferred (CMA, CGA, CPA or CA)
- Operational and Shared Services Finance experience, preferred
- Job Cost Experience, an asset
- Key user SAP experience, an asset
Knowledge & Skills:
- Demonstrated financial/business analysis/cost control skills
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and leadership skills
- Strong ability to influence with and without authority
- SAP/ERP BI skills
- GAAP knowledge
