Wood has an opportunity for a Technical Writer to join our Training & Competence Solutions team in Vancouver, BC. Wood Training & Competence Solutions is looking for a Technical Writer to join their team in Vancouver, BC. Wood is a global leader in the design and development of asset-specific operations and maintenance training programs. From traditional classroom-based delivery through to e-learning and virtual reality, Wood provides clients with the tools they require to ensure a safe and efficient workforce.
- Developing content for facility or process specific training
- Developing content for operations manuals and operating and maintenance procedures using site specific information
- Developing lesson, assessment, and training plans to supplement the manuals and procedures
- Participating as a contributing member of a team, communicating effectively with these members on various tasks and projects as assigned
- Following client-specific and department style guides and writing standards
- Investigating and gathering of information required to complete assignments within deadlines
- Interview the client or subject matter experts to obtain information
- Ability to carry out onsite facility walkthroughs with subject matter experts
- Communicating with subject matter experts to review content for technical accuracy
- Reporting progress to Project Manager and updating progress trackers
- Degree or Diploma in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, or technical discipline
- Two years of technical writing experience
- Equivalent process industry experience will be considered
- Excellent English reading and writing skills are essential
- Proficiency in MS Word is required
- Ability to understand system descriptions, process diagrams (PFDs, P&IDs, equipment drawings, etc.), vendor information, and process control descriptions
- Ability to work within a team environment, with strong interpersonal skills enabling smooth interaction with internal departments and client representatives
- Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
- Must live within reasonable commuting distance to the Vancouver, BC office
Assets:
- Technical writing degree
- Experience with content development tools (Storyline, Captivate, etc.) and learning management systems
- Experience developing training materials
- Availability to travel for short assignments using personal vehicle in Lower Mainland.
- Additional languages
