Standard BioTools is looking for a Facilities & Safety Specialist to provide critical daily operating support for its multiple Facilities in Markham. This individual will work closely with all departments to ensure safety compliance and be an ambassador of Safety in the Workplace. As a key department resource, the daily management of the Facility & Safety ticketing system will be an important duty, the depts KPIs are driven from these service tickets. The daily workload for the incumbent will change regularly. Working on special installations & workplace setups, owning internal preventative maintenance schedule duties of critical building systems, all while making safety a priority for staff, visitors through a robust facility management platform. Additionally, the incumbent will directly support the Office Management Department with routine & specialized event support, office duties, inventory management & standard administrative support.

Responsibilities:

  • Own workplace hazards program, ensuring continuous assessment of risks and communication of such issues.
  • Ownership of the Facility & Safety preventive maintenance duties and schedules.
  • Assist Departments with SOP & Policy writing of internal Safety, Facility & Security procedures.
  • Conduct Inspections on Facility equipment to ensure safety requirements are met.
  • Install and assemble new office & specialized equipment to support internal customers.
  • Follow service-related procedures, while using specialized metering devices to assess potential equipment failures or system errors.
  • Conduct basic repairs on the Facilities equipment such as heating and cooling systems, plumbing systems, electrical systems, security platforms and breakroom equipment.
  • Own the receiving duties and inventory control of goods for office admin/facilities dept.
  • Generate purchase requisitions and general purchasing duties to support the facilities team.
  • Open and close Facility and Office dept. service tickets while understanding tiered priorities.
  • Provide routine general office operating support for daily and special event coordination.
  • Safety Focused: Dedicated to the health and safety of yourself and your colleagues.
  • Professional Communication Skills: Must communicate well with employees and be able to lead and control workflow with external Facility contractors.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to work safely, while pressured with conflicting tasks and duties, multitask well while ensuring customer satisfaction and tasks are completed on-time.
  • Proficiency With: MS Office, Phone based Facility applications, Building Programing Tools.
  • Previous exposure with continuous improvement, lean principles and teachings a plus
  • Physical Condition: Incumbent must be able to lift 50 lbs,
  • Facility Operations and preventive maintenance experience 8+ years.
  • Prior speciality work supporting a life science, pharma, clinical and/or corporate office workplace environment in Facilities & Safety is an asset.
  • Safety Experience and training 8+ years.
  • Must be: Flexible and able to be on call and provide afterhours support in case of an emergency rotating schedule with Ops. Manager
  • Must have access to a vehicle.
