The Director of Conduct & Discipline serves primarily as the Complaints Inquiry Committee (CIC) Secretary. The CIC’s mandate is established under the Chartered Professional Accountants Act (Alberta), and its role is to review complaints against registrants and act as the representative of the CIC in professional discipline matters. The person in this position is an active member of the Extended Management Team and provides leadership to the Conduct & Discipline team.
The Director reports to the Senior Vice President, Regulatory.
CPA Alberta has offices in Edmonton and Calgary and provides hybrid Telecommuting opportunities (working from home a maximum of 3 days a week).

What you bring
- A CPA designation.
- 5 to 7 years of professional administrative law experience related experience gained from working in conduct and discipline processes in the professional regulatory organization context.
- Minimum of 4 years of people management or supervisory experience, including staff hiring, supervision, development and training; and team leadership.
- Strategic astuteness in problem-solving.
- Collaborative approach to working with colleagues.
- Diplomacy and professionalism in working with internal and external parties.
- Risk management awareness and experience.
- A capacity to synthesize large volumes of information.
- Superior report writing skills with a strong knowledge of how to write for a professional regulatory adjudicative audience.
What you will be doing
- Assisting the CIC in achieving their mandate pursuant to the Act and overseeing the management of the committee, including the recruiting and training of the volunteers.
- Developing clear conduct and discipline goals that are consistent with the regulatory framework and organizational initiatives.
- Developing policies, procedures, and guidelines related to various aspects of conduct and discipline.
- Identifying trends/patterns, lessons learned, and best practice relating to conduct and discipline issues with a view to furthering the regulatory mandate in policy development, preventive actions and awareness building initiatives.
- Providing input for the development and implementation of member information and community outreach measures on conduct and discipline issues.
- Keeping current on developments and trends in the field of conduct and discipline and contributing to the development of measures to increase awareness.
- Participating in National committees and conduct and discipline related initiatives.
- Ensuring that the Conduct and Discipline department acts as a sound fiscal steward of the resources entrusted to CPA Alberta.

Working Specifications
- Fast paced and dynamic work environment.
- Frequent travel between Edmonton and Calgary and infrequent travel within Canada required.
- Ability to participate in lengthy proceedings, if required.
- Occasional work outside of regular working hours may be required.
- This position can be in either Calgary or Edmonton.
