We’re looking for a Senior Data Engineer who thrives in environments of change and growth. This person will be instrumental in driving innovation, delivering scalable solutions, and mentoring our talented but evolving team.

Role Summary

As a Senior Data Engineer at Bison Transport, you’ll lead the charge in designing, building, and optimizing our data infrastructure using tools like Matillion, DBT, Snowflake, TimeXtender, and Snaplogic. This role will demand not just technical expertise but also adaptability, creativity, and the ability to guide the team through rapid change.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create Scalable Solutions: Design and develop ETL/ELT pipelines using Matillion and DBT, and optimize our data warehouse in Snowflake to support analytics and reporting.
  • Build from the Ground Up: Help establish a strong foundation for our data infrastructure, introducing best practices for data governance, modeling, and quality.
  • Tool Implementation: Leverage tools like TimeXtender for data modeling and Snaplogic for seamless integration between systems.
  • Mentor and Lead: Provide mentorship to junior team members, sharing technical expertise, fostering problem-solving skills, and helping them navigate a fast-changing environment.
  • Drive Change: Advocate for data-driven decision-making and help the organization transition from an early-stage data maturity level to a more advanced, scalable practice.
  • Collaborate in Growth: Partner with cross-functional teams to identify business needs, build solutions, and demonstrate the power of data in driving operational efficiency.
  • Adapt to Dynamic Roles: Work collaboratively in an environment where roles can blur, embracing a “start-up” mentality within a mature company.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or similar role.
  • Proficiency in Matillion, DBT, Snowflake, TimeXtender, and Snaplogic, or equivalent tools.
  • Advanced programming skills in Python, SQL, and/or other scripting languages.
  • Strong experience in Kimball-style dimensional modeling and building data warehouses.
  • Familiarity with building and maintaining semantic layers for analytics.
  • A track record of mentoring team members and contributing to team growth.
  • Comfort working in environments with low data maturity and helping organizations evolve toward data maturity.
  • Experience in logistics or supply chain is an asset but not required.
  • Excellent problem-solving, adaptability, and communication skills.
