The Bid Development Manager is responsible for managing responses to ‘Request for Tenders’ (RFT) or ‘Request for Proposals’ (RFP) issued by customers and ensures that the solution proposed is complete and appropriate and results in the best proposal possible for long-term customer programs. Responsible for meeting planned program sales volumes, market penetration, and profitability objectives.

Specific Accountabilities

  • In conjunction with the Director, Bid Development, the business unit & the assigned capture team (if applicable), is responsible for submitting a completed bid to an existing or prospective customer, on time and within budget.
  • Prepares proposals in conjunction with various business units, sector personnel and other levels of management.
  • Manages the preparation and delivery of long-term bid proposal presentations in compliance with the organization’s policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for submitting and obtaining approval of long-term bid proposals.
  • Collaborates with the capture team in the contract bid planning process to mitigate future negative financial impacts to long-term contracts (i.e., future cost of labor and materials, etc.).
  • Establishes, maintains and develops business relationships with customers and potential prospects.
  • Provides feedback to operations and the segment/sector team to assist with qualification of customer needs and the organization’s ability to serve those needs.
  • Coordinates and manages the relationship between the organization and the approved intermediary of the company as required; owns Sales Intermediary selection, negotiation, and agreements.
  • Responsible for developing the skills of and keeping the intermediary up-to-date on technical matters and corporate policy.
  • Leads contract re-negotiation process for additions to the original agreement.
  • Responds promptly to inquiries and provides proposals or options for service and/or sales required to meet customers’ needs.
  • Expedites the resolution of customer problems/complaints as it pertains to the bid process.
  • Maintains the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) or Sales Force Dot Com (SFDC) database.
  • Attends industry trade shows, sales meetings, marketing workshops, and other special events as required.
  • Manages costs by applying a thorough knowledge of market segment cost drivers.
  • Keeps abreast of products, applications, technical service, market conditions, competitive activities, advertising and promotional trends through the reading of pertinent literature and consulting with marketing and technical services.
  • Responsible for observing all applicable safety requirements and reporting immediately any unsafe practices/conditions.
  • Carries out special projects as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

  • College diploma in business administration or engineering technology; or equivalent.
  • Strong planning, organizational, analytical, leadership, interpersonal, decision making, oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong negotiation, conflict resolution, and customer service skills.
  • 2-3 years of sales, customer service, finance, or business development experience in an aerospace environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of company processes, instructions, and compliance policies.
  • Thorough product knowledge of specific market segment.
  • Thorough knowledge of sales/marketing computer information systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of company production processes and of the levers available to various functional groups to maximize sales, service, and margin.
  • Working knowledge of PCs in the current company operating system environment.

Up to 25% travel required.
