Samsung Electronics Canada Inc., head office located in Mississauga, ON, is inviting applications for one Legal & Regulatory Affairs Articling Student position within our Legal & Regulatory Affairs Department to join our team Immediately. The Articling Student will be reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel of Legal & Regulatory Affairs.
This position is responsible for providing legal, regulatory and corporate compliance support with respect to civil litigation matters, contract review, corporate compliance and regulatory affairs.
Role and Responsibilities
Civil Litigation:
- Tracking and monitoring status of litigation small claims to ensure timely handling
- Working with all channels to obtain supporting documentation and information relating to small claims matters
- Drafting statements of defense, affidavit of documents
- Preparing court materials; filing of court documents; and maintaining relationships with the courts
- Communicating with plaintiffs, customers, courts, internal and external stakeholders and third party counsel to reach settlement
- Attending settlement and mediation conferences and trials
- Conducting legal research and rules of civil procedure
- Filing documents
Corporate Commercial:
- Attending meetings and participating in strategy sessions
- Conducting document review and production of commercial agreements including non-disclosure and service agreements
- Negotiation of contracts
- General administrative tasks as required
Skills and Qualifications
- Fluency in French, both oral and written, is a MUST for this position
- Knowledge of corporate law and a background handling a wide array of corporate law matters in an independent and collaborative manner
- Available to start immediately is highly preferred
- Excellent communication skills – oral and written
- Ability to develop relationships with customers and all levels of an organization
- Proficient with MS Office products
- Quick to learn new software (internal software developed in-house)
- Ability to prioritize and to work under pressure and within time constraints
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize tasks, handle a large volume of work and work in a fast paced and challenging environment
