Purpose of Role
You will be a key member of a dynamic group of lawyers, law clerks and legal support staff, providing the highest level of service to our clients, while having the opportunity to cultivate your skills as part of our successful national Insurance and Tort Liability Group, within Canada’s premier full-service law firm.

Key Responsibilities and Skills
The key responsibilities of this role are:
- Play a critical role in assisting our lawyers with matters relating to all aspects of insurance and tort liability.
- You will prepare client reports and engage in direct client communications relating to ongoing matters.
- You will provide support on matters related to professional negligence, product liability, motor vehicle accidents, slip and falls etc.
- In addition to being responsible for daily file management, you will assist the Firm’s lawyers with drafting pleadings, preparing document production for the discovery process (including preparing charts, chronologies and summaries of documentary evidence), drafting motions, mediation briefs, pre-trial briefs and preparing for hearings and trials, acting as a liaison between lawyer/client and lawyer/opposing counsel and liaising with and retaining experts.
- Collaborate and contribute as an important member of the team and provide unwavering commitment to excellent client service.
Key Competencies
What you will bring to this role:
- 5+ years’ experience in a Law Clerk role with a focus on insurance defence litigation.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of the Rules of Civil Procedure.
- College Law Clerk Diploma or Institute of Law Clerks Ontario Certificate.
- University degree is an asset.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Initiative and expertise to drive highly effective file management and seek direction when appropriate.
- Highly organized with time management skills.
- Knowledge of iManage, Case Center (formerly CaseLines), ACL, Kofax PDF, Word, Excel and Outlook.
- A team player with a strong work ethic and a desire for continuous improvement.
