We are currently seeking a qualified Lead Field Specialist to join our Infrastructure team based in Toronto, ON. The Field Specialist will be part of the Delivery Partner integrated project team responsible for performing construction field engineering assignments of a varied nature related to the Ontario Line Subway Project. The Field Specialist, as part of the Advanced Works area of the project, is responsible for executing and managing construction field engineering tasks, ensuring work meets safety, technical, and quality standards. This role requires strong problem-solving skills and the ability to coordinate with project teams. The Field Specialist may lead a team or specialize in a specific area of the project. Duties & Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the activities of assigned field specialists, such as the application of drawings, specifications, and subcontracts.
- Ensure that safety and creation, as well as maintenance of a safe workplace and environment, is the primary consideration and priority in the delivery of all work.
- Responsible for acceptance of contractor's Inspection and Test Plans within assigned area(s). Attends Witness and Hold points on behalf of Metrolinx as required.
- Track, log, and monitor submissions (design, tests, deficiencies, reports, etc.) and RFI's against milestone dates and agreed durations to ensure that Metrolinx, the TA, Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ's) and contractors comply with agreed submission dates and response durations.
- Calculate, track, and record quantities of works performed by the Construction Contractors for the purposes of analyzing and evaluating reported versus actual rates of production.
- Supervises the review of construction drawings and schedules. Supervises the design of temporary construction facilities and ensures preparation of “as built” drawings and other job plans.
- Assists subordinate field specialists in (1) Interpreting design drawings, (2) Monitoring equipment installation and planning for delivery of construction materials and equipment.
- Reviews specifications, relevant codes, contracts, inspection reports, delivery schedules, instruction manuals, and technical data to verify contract requirements are met.
- Coordinates with the Construction Manager on activities affecting the contract administration operation. Coordinates with engineering design on constructability issues.
- Reviews and/or supervises, as assigned, the preparation of construction estimates, cost engineering studies, schedules, and budgets.
- Reviews on a monthly basis Contractor's proposed draft and final invoices.
- Ensures that contractor's material and equipment are in conformance to specifications.
- Coordinates the interfacing between the construction automation plan and the project controls program at the job site. Reviews project controls documents on progress relating to cost and schedule.
- Performs personnel evaluation of assigned subordinate personnel and ensures they receive progressive training.
- Works with various functions to ensure the project achieves corporate goals set for environmental, safety & health, quality, cost, and schedule.
- Technical knowledge of a specialized engineering discipline, cost, scheduling, and/or contracts administration relating to the construction of heavy civil works.
- Demonstrated leadership in a team-based environment.
- Prior experience supervising and administering subcontractors and management of changes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university as well as a minimum of 6-9 years of relevant work experience, or 12-15 years relevant experience in the absence of a degree.
- Experience working in the rail industry and/or large-scale infrastructure.
- Successful Field Engineering track record on a major multidisciplinary rail project.
- Demonstrated technical writing, data management, verbal communication, presentation, and teaching skills.
- A firm understanding of rail engineering procedures, principles, and concepts.
- Experience working with teams and stakeholders in the development and delivery of large infrastructure projects. Ability to communicate across technical disciplines (engineering, construction, operations, maintenance).
- Computer skills (including Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Knowledge of supervisory functions relating to field activities.
- Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H).
- Demonstrable commitment to a Zero Accident safety program.
