Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mechatronics Technologist to join our dynamic Engineering team. In this role, you will play a key part in the development, design, build, and troubleshooting of our cutting-edge autonomous robots. You will be hands-on, working with a variety of mechanical, electrical, and software components to bring our robots to life.
This role is based in our Kitchener HQ 5 days per week

Responsibilities:
- Design and Development:
- Contribute to the design and development of new robotic systems and sub-systems
- Create and interpret mechanical drawings and electrical schematics.
- Select and integrate appropriate sensors, actuators, and other components
- Develop and execute test plans to validate designs and ensure functionality
- Build and Assembly:
- Assemble and test robotic systems and sub-systems
- Fabricate and modify parts using hand tools, power tools, and machine shop equipment
- Implement quality control procedures to ensure high-quality builds
- Troubleshooting and Repair:
- Diagnose and repair malfunctions in robotic systems
- Identify root causes of failures and implement corrective actions
- Provide technical support to internal and external customers
- Continuous Improvement:
- Identify opportunities to improve robot design, performance, and reliability
- Contribute to the development of best practices for mechatronics engineering
- Stay up-to-date on the latest advancements in robotics technology
- Diploma or Degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering Technology or a related field
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in a mechatronics or robotics role
- Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and software principles
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software (On-Shape preferred)
- Experience in PCB design and layout (Altium Designer preferred)
- Experience with sensors, actuators, motors, and drives
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Successfully complete pre-employment onboarding requirements that may include criminal/civil background checks
- Experience with autonomous robots or mobile robotics
- Familiarity with ROS (Robot Operating System)
- Programming skills in Python or C++
- Experience with machine learning or computer vision
- Experience with harness design and assembly, including crimping, soldering, and cable routing.
- Experience in using Jira & Confluence
- Experience using PLM tools (like Arena PLM) to streamline engineering processes, improve collaboration, and ensure data integrity
- Passion for robotics and a desire to work on cutting-edge technology
- Familiarity with Design of Experiments (DOE) principles and methodologies
