SUMMARY
- Our federal client is responsible for providing occupational health services to its members. The authority to collect information concerning the overall health of a member of our federal client is derived from our federal client’s Act, their Regulations and the Commissioner’s Standing Orders. The Physician is to provide occupational health services to our federal client for a contract period of 2 years with the potential to extend on an additional 6-month period.
DESCRIPTION
- Our federal client requires the services of physicians to provide onsite occupational health services to members in Calgary, Alberta. The estimated hours to be forty hours per week for each full-time physician and estimated 20 hours per week for each part-time physician
- Operating hours where the site is available to accommodate physician services is 8:00PM-6:00PM Mon to Fri
- There may be occasions when our federal client requires that the physician provide services after hours on weekends and statutory holidays
- The Physician may occasionally be requested to travel beyond the location of work (as above) for work and/or related training.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Doctor of medicine degree (MD) from a recognized Canadian university; (or if the Doctor of Medicine degree (MD) was obtained outside of Canada, an unrestricted license with the Medical Council of Canada);
- Be licensed as a Physician in the Province of Alberta;
- Be in good standing with the Provincial College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta;
- A minimum of 3 years (36 months) of cumulative full-time experience as a physician (excluding residency/internship experience);
- Have worked as a member of a multidisciplinary team providing services to adults in a discipline relevant to the work taking place with our federal client including, but not limited to, Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, and Occupational Medicine.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate in case conferences with the Manager, Health Services team and/or the Disability Management Advisors (DMA’s) to ensure an effective collaborative approach to service delivery. Provide professional consultation and advice related to occupational health and wellness on the cases presented.
- Meet with Members in person or virtually to discuss relevant medical information, medical profile (MP) assignment, and treatment recommendations.
- Review medical files, including review of medications, medical conditions, and new updates from care providers, to determine the occupational fitness of Members and to assign a medical profile for them per our federal client’s required with appropriate limitations and restrictions, in accordance with the Health Services Manual and the Disability Case Management and Accommodation Manual. This also includes a review of the Periodic Health Assessments (PHA’s) that are a requirement for all regular members.
- Conduct medical reviews, including the review of psychological reports, special assignment reviews for members considered for posting to a specialized unit. These assessments are for the purpose of screening members in/out of the specialized unit or geographical areas and monitoring the mental health and fitness for specialized duty of members.
- Act as a medical resource to our federal client’s medical Benefits Section and Employee Management Relations Officer (EMRO)/Delegate for determination of benefit approval.
- The Physician will be responsible for reviewing requests for medication entitlement, additional supplemental benefits, occupational health care benefits, medical investigations and/or treatments that have been requested through a Members’ health care provider.
- The Physician will be responsible for determining the medical support, necessity and urgency for each request and providing recommendations
- Attending and present at meetings and/or organized training events for managers.
- Store all records created and utilized while performing work under the contract on our federal client’s issued computer only. Anything that is required to be retained and stored for our federal client’s member’s medical file must be printed off using an authorized printer only and placed on the member’s medical file. The contractor must not save any of our federal client’s records created or accessed or utilized while performing work under the contract on any databases, including outlook.
EXPECTATIONS
- While performing work under the Contract, the physician must conduct themselves in accordance with our federal client’s Renewed Core Values and expected behaviors, as well as in accordance with the Values and Ethics Code for the Public Sector. The physician must follow our federal client’s policies and guidelines, in particular, Occupational Health and Safety Branch (OHSB) policy, guidelines, directives, and policy interpretation (e.g. from the Chief Medical Officer, National Chief Psychologist).
- The physician must perform work under the contract professionally in accordance with standards set by applicable regulatory authorities as well as any additional standards.
