Nature and Scope:
As a dedicated health, safety & environmental coordinator with a proactive approach, you play a key role in promoting the EllisDon Core Values.
Duties:
- Be responsible for site-specific safety orientation, job site inspections, and accident/incident reports to ensure safety and health standards.
- Monitor employees and subcontractors on site for compliance with health and safety procedures, escalating issues to leadership as needed.
- Proactively identify and prevent hazardous situations; participate in investigations of safety concerns and incidents.
- Act as a first aid attendant; coordinate emergency response at the workplace.
- Organize and conduct training programs on workplace safety including WHMIS, Fall Protection, and CPR/First Aid.
- Lead, maintain, and educate site staff on creating a safety-first culture and compliance with legislation and regulations.
- Review subcontractors’ pre-construction safety submittals and enforce procedures on health and safety standards.
- Compile project health and safety statistics to identify trends and ensure workplace safety.
- Attend client meetings to provide safety updates.
- Serve as a resource to subcontractors and visitors.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 7-10 years of safety construction experience.
- Ability to delegate and influence compliance with safety rules.
- Certification under the Occupational Health & Safety Act/Regulations with experience on a construction site.
- Occupational First Aid Certificate (OFA L2 minimum, with certified Transportation Endorsement).
- Construction Safety Officer certificate or progress towards National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) certification for British Columbia.
- Gold Seal certification as a Construction Safety Coordinator and/or CRSP designation is an asset.
- International certification (NEBOSH, ISO 45001, IGC) is an asset.
- Experience with the Certificate of Recognition (COR) Program.
- Fall Protection expertise.
Working Conditions:
- Exposure to moderately adverse environmental conditions; may require safety equipment and precautions.
- Heavy physical exertion required, lifting between 10 to 25 kilograms (20 – 50 pounds).
