The Pricing team is looking for a VP, Personal Insurance Auto Pricing to join their team! This role is responsible for developing the pricing strategy in PI business segments using best in class actuarial expertise, analysis and insights. The role is accountable for the leadership and direction of over $2.5B of auto portfolio within Personal Insurance business.

What you'll do:

  • Collaborates with internal pricing and analytics teams to transform technical pricing and analytics models into the street pricing which is ultimately delivered to our customers.
  • Is a key partner with business development and segment management to determine regional / segment pricing strategies.
  • Monitor our competitive position in all segments across Canada by collaborating with business development and internal competitive intelligence teams and leverages this information to improve our business.
  • Works closely with the analytics team to bring to market sophisticated pricing models including machine-learning as well as dynamic market models.
  • Works in close collaboration with other areas of the business such as Corporate Actuarial, Claims, Finance, Analytics, Underwriting and Government Relations to develop a deep understanding of Aviva’s personal insurance business.
  • Responsible for working with external regulators and other partners to influence decisions which will affect the ability to achieve Aviva’s business outcomes.
  • Leading regional and segment street pricing teams each of which will specialize in the performance and nuances of their region / segment to deliver on each segment’s strategy to ensure we are delivering desired results as well as addressing factors that are impacting profitability.
  • Responsible for leading and motivating a team of actuarial professionals to achieve outperforming results. This includes supporting their professional development and the overall integrity of the work performed by the actuarial pricing team.
  • Maintains relationships with various internal and external partners such as Underwriting, Analytics, Claims, Reserving, Finance, Distribution and Provincial Regulators. Strong relationship building and negotiation skills are required.
  • Act as the corporate representative to regulators, and represent the enterprise to customers, suppliers and external bodies in the development.
  • Ensure that appropriate audit controls exist and serve as the source material for regulatory reports.
  • Build and maintain controls to effectively handle corporate risk associated with your role.
  • Create policies and controls for the appropriate protection of enterprise information through a defined life cycle, from acquisition or creation to end of life destruction and disposal procedures.
  • As part of any decision-making process or strategic change, you must consider customer interests and ensure that decisions made result in fair customer outcomes and fair treatment of customers.
  • Understand and champion the Group’s Risk Management Framework, including all Risk Policies and linked Business Standards; reporting, escalation and governance processes (including all legal and regulatory requirements);
  • Maintaining effective and efficient risk management and internal control systems, in line with agreed risk appetite. Where necessary advising action plans to rectify ineffective controls and bring associated risks within appetite including outsourced arrangements, in a timely manner.
  • Identify, own and handle any specific key risks and/or key controls that you are identified as the owner for on iCARE. Maintain appropriate records and ensure that controls are sufficiently well designed and operating effectively to keep the risks that they mitigate within Aviva's tolerance level. Report and bring up the status of the relevant risks and controls as appropriate.
  • Report on Risk Events identified in, or by, your area of responsibility to the Risk Management Team in a timely manner.
  • Investigate Risk Events in your area and ensure appropriate remediation is carried out to prevent recurrence.
  • Consider key risks and risk appetite during decision making & planning to ensure changes do not expose the business to unacceptable levels of risk.

What you'll bring:

  • Undergraduate degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, economics, finance, or other related field or equivalent experience.
  • Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society.
  • Proven management capabilities and strong analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of regulatory environment and provincial rate filing requirements.
  • An understanding of reserving, finance, accounting, investment and insurance principles.
  • Ability to think long term strategically and operationally.
  • Strong ability to influence partners and drive decisions to improve business outcomes.
  • Budgetary control.
  • 10+ years of relevant pricing experience.
  • Market reputation for leading business focused teams and translating deep pricing expertise into business strategies.
