Our Environment & Parks Department is looking for a dedicated Environment Summer Student to join the team.
Position Responsibilities
Grande Prairie's Environment & Parks Department is looking for an enthusiastic student to work alongside our full-time staff for the summer. You will be currently enrolled in post secondary in the field of environmental or science studies. We offer a wide variety of hands-on training and experiences in both the office and field environments. You will have the opportunity to develop existing skills learned in school while exploring new skills. Working at the City of GP for the summer will foster a solid foundation to build a career in the environmental monitoring field. The successful candidate will be organized and curious, have the ability to solve problems, be confident in working alone, and have excellent communication skills.
Qualifications
To be qualified for this role, you must be enrolled in a post secondary program in environmental or science studies, hold a current drivers license and be able to provide a drivers abstract upon request, have valid first aid or be registered at the time of hire.
You will thrive in this position if you have a natural curiosity to learn how urban municipalities work alongside the environment and are willing to work alone and make good choices.
Your responsibilities will include varied tasks supporting the Environmental Technologist in the surface and ground water sampling program, monitoring for methane, conducting environmental inspections and audits.
Specific Responsibilities May Include
The standard workweek consists of an average of 35 hours, with the specific schedule being determined by the immediate supervisor.
Compensation
Starting salary $26.96 per hour as per the Out-of-Scope Agreement.

- Prepare for and assist with surface and ground water sampling
- Record all sampling and methane monitoring data
- Assist with tracking data and report writing
- Assist with and participate in external departmental activities including GP Grows events (some evenings and weekends work may be required)
- Attend departmental meetings
