Quality Supervisor, Accuracy Control

The Quality Supervisor, Accuracy Control provides technical oversight and direction for dimensional accuracy control of structural and outfit systems. Participates in the development of build strategies used for construction, floors and analyses data and helps to develop plans for improvement of product accuracy. Additionally, the Supervisor ensures formal inspections with owners and regulatory bodies are completed as required.
What you’ll do
- Accomplishes department objectives by supervising staff and organizing and monitoring work processes.
- Plans, monitors, and appraises job results.
- Maintains safe and healthy work environment by establishing and enforcing organization standards and adhering to legal regulations.
- Completes operations by developing schedules, assigning, and monitoring work, gathering resources, implementing productivity standards, resolving operations problems, maintaining reference manuals, and implementing new procedures.
- Reviews specifications, class rules, work instructions and SOPs to determine trade-specific quality requirements for each contract.
- Develops new construction and repair projects’ Inspection and Test Plans for trade-specific systems. Ensures plans are implemented in accordance with contract requirements.
- Performs daily in-process quality inspections of trade-specific work. Documents and communicates results to responsible supervisors.
- Performs accuracy control activities for new construction and repair projects at Seaspan Shipyards.
- Produces and signs final inspection reports that are deliverable as objective quality evidence to the customer.
- Performs receiving inspection of components, mechanical and electrical systems, steel, and pipe.
- Attends formal inspections with customers and regulatory bodies. Documents all defects, nonconformities and provides results to responsible supervisors and Customer/Class as required.
- Works with trade and area supervisors to improve in-process quality.
- Performs gap analyses of procedures, work instructions and forms for trade-specific systems. Communicates results to respective area and assists in developing and modifying procedures, work instructions and forms as required.
- Maintains quality files for trade-specific areas.
- Performs periodic audits of trade-specific suppliers to ensure compliance with contract requirements.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
What you’ll bring
- 5 years supervisory experience leading a team in a complex work environment.
- Diploma in relevant discipline (Marine, Mechanical Naval Architect, Electrical Engineering or Geomatics /equivalent Surveying measuring background preferred) or Red Seal Trades Certificates, or
- CWB CSA W178.2 Level 1 Welding Inspector, or
- NACE Level I Paint Inspector
- 5-8 years’ experience in shipyards or complex manufacturing industry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5-8 years’ experience as a welding inspector of steel structure and piping fabrication, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Technical understanding of NDT techniques and their application to meet contract, regulatory and statutory requirements for trade-specific systems.
- Prior Quality/Accuracy Control or Quality Assurance experience is desirable.
- Formal quality assurance certifications desirable.

The estimated salary for this position is $115,000 - $127,000. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful candidate’s skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity.
