Overview
Lafarge is seeking a candidate to work within the quality control team to provide timely and accurate process control information, ensure that all testing equipment is operating properly, perform pre-pour and post-pour checks, perform concrete testing and certify that completed products meet specifications. Daily adherence to Canadian Standards Association (CSA) is required, as well as ensuring all requirements are met to maintain certification to these standards. The successful candidate will report to the Quality Control Supervisor and work closely with other Quality Control (QC) Technicians.
Responsibilities:
- Test and verify production concrete product as batched or on site.
- Perform all necessary tasks related to testing and quality assurance.
- Follows and ensures full compliance with LafargeHolcim Health, Safety, and Environmental Policies, as well as WorkSafe BC Regulations.
- Follows and implements proper testing and reporting procedures per CSA.
Job Scope:
The successful candidate shall be willing and able to perform all the duties as expected for a QC technician and will be scheduled on an as needed basis. Required duties include:
- Implement the QC program (inspections, tests, completion of forms, etc.)
- Perform all types of concrete tests as required at plant & or in field
- Work closely with ready mix drivers to educate them on mixes, slumps, air contents, etc.
- Perform aggregate sampling and burn offs
- Run and maintain testing equipment
- Perform equipment calibrations as required
- Maintain records of testing documentation
- Provide technical support to production staff
- Advise production staff if testing shows any deficiencies and develop action plans as required
- Fill out all paperwork manually and on computer spreadsheets as necessary
- Ensure all operations and paperwork are in compliance with CSA
- Perform other duties as required
Qualifications:
- 2 years’ experience working in quality control/construction field
- Experience working in the concrete industry is preferred
- ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade 1 certification (certification must be obtained within 3-months of start date) or CCIL Concrete Certification (preferred)
- Selection/awards will be given per Article 9.07/9.08
Prerequisites:
- Safety and results oriented
- Strong product and production knowledge
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with attention to detail
- Have a basic understanding of the chemistry of concrete and its ingredients
- Good mechanical aptitude and able to interpret technical drawings
- Maintains composure in dealing with difficult situations
- Able to sit, stand, climb and walk for extended periods of time as necessary
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Able to work in an industrial environment that may include dust, heat, loud noise, etc.
- Able to work effectively as part of a team
- Has basic computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and other basic operating programs
Compensation:
- Training Wage: $29.94/hr (per CBA)
- Wage $44.71/hr (per CBA)
