About the Role
As a EMT,Senior Consultant I, Power System Studies, you'll focus on delivering advanced Electromagnetic Transients (EMT) simulations and analyses that address critical challenges in power systems. This role is pivotal in providing advisory services for resource integration, large-scale EMT simulations, oscillation analysis, transmission planning, and network modeling.
You will lead studies in areas such as dynamic stability, transient stability, voltage stability, sub-synchronous resonance, insulation coordination, arc-flash energy studies, and inverter-based resource (IBR) and HVDC control system design. With hands-on expertise in tools like PSCAD, EMTP, PSS/E, and DIgSILENT PowerFactory, you'll mentor junior consultants while continuing to enhance your technical and leadership skills.
Location
This role offers flexibility and can be remote, hybrid, or onsite. Office locations include Kirkland, WA; Westborough, MA; Cary, NC; or Burnaby, Canada.
About You
You are an experienced power systems professional with extensive expertise in Electromagnetic Transients (EMT) and related power systems analysis. With 7 years of professional experience in real-world applications outside of academic settings, you have developed a strong specialization in Power Networks. You thrive in collaborative environments and are passionate about delivering exceptional solutions to clients while mentoring and developing your team.
What You'll Do
As an EMT Senior Consultant I, you will provide expertise in EMT simulations and contribute to client success through technical studies, consulting services, and mentorship. You will:
- Perform EMT simulations, including resource integration, model quality tests, and large-scale system studies for sub-synchronous resonance and oscillation analysis.
- Lead advanced power system studies, including dynamic stability, transient stability, voltage stability, and insulation coordination.
- Conduct classical power system analysis, including transient stability and short circuit analysis.
- Deliver arc-flash energy studies, generator interconnection analyses, and HVDC control system design.
- Prepare detailed technical reports and collaborate with global PSC colleagues to execute studies.
- Collaborate with clients to define scope and develop proposals.
- Manage client expectations through clear communication and responsiveness.
- Independently manage project schedules, risks, and deliverables.
- Identify and communicate business opportunities or challenges to management.
- Mentor junior consultants and lead technical contributions to projects.
What You'll Need
- At least 7 years of experience in Power Networks, with developed expertise in Electromagnetic Transients (EMT) simulation, transmission planning, and interconnection studies.
- Proficiency with industry tools such as PSCAD, EMTP, PSS/E, and DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
- Experience working with ISOs, RTOs, utilities, or providing consulting services in these domains.
- Knowledge of NERC requirements and IEEE standards (e.g., 2800, 1547).
- Professional Engineer (PE) designation or eligibility.
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (preference for advanced degrees specializing in power systems).
- Must be legally authorized to work in Canada and/or the United States.
- Ability to travel as needed, including occasional evenings and weekends for business development or consulting.

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions. The final pay offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and years of experience within the job, the type of years and experience within the industry, education, training, licensure, certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled.
At PSC it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
A reasonable estimate of the current range by country is as follows:
$133,000 CAD to $165,000 CAD
$127,000 USD to $160,000 USD
