Through our Healthcare Contracts, Calian hires healthcare professionals across Canada who contribute to the health and well-being of our military.
Calian is currently seeking Paramedics to work at the Whitehorse Cadet Summer Camp located near Whitehorse, YK. Paramedics support emergency responses and provide first aid to cadets during day field excursions. These roles are best suited for Paramedics with flexibility in their schedule to commit to working a few shifts, a few weeks, or the entire schedule this summer in camps, with the option to return annually to the role. We can offer you the opportunity to work with a unique pediatric population motivated to be healthy and lead an active lifestyle. The team includes physicians, nurse practitioners, paramedics, and registered nurses.
Responsibilities
- Paramedics are needed to perform physical exams, triage, and help manage common health conditions, advise patients on preventative health care, and facilitate access to health services and referrals. Education about communicable diseases, addressing first aid concerns and supporting mental health needs will be daily aspects of the role.
- You will be responsible for ensuring that all medical equipment provided is prepared and easily accessible in the event you need to administer medical care to cadets. Care may include patient assessment, initial triage, urgent medical care, stabilization, and civilian transfer, if necessary. Depending on the nature of the excursion, you may find yourself in an isolated area where response times for emergency response services are longer than average.
Qualifications
- Graduate of a primary care paramedic training program approved by the Paramedics Association of Canada (CPA) or the Canadian Medical Association (CMA).
- License to work as a paramedic in your province of practice.
- Current CPR and first aid certificates.
- Possess a valid certificate for the International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) basic or advanced course.
- At least one year of experience as an Ambulance Paramedic Technician in primary care.
