Role Mandate:

  • The Director, Mapping & Merchandising is accountable for planning and mapping the perimeter items in support of the format strategy, category strategy and customer experience while driving incremental units and sales and growing market share.
  • The Director will be responsible to ensure program plans, using data and insights, protect sales overlaps and deliver on a total store customer experience. The Director will ensure the communication of all plans through the pocket guide and execution guides to the store teams. The plans will ensure the merchandising standards for Superstore are upheld. They will communicate and be responsible for sell through by store and ensuring exit strategies are actioned by the category teams.
  • The successful candidate will be based out of Calgary office.

Accountabilities:

Planning:

  • Ensure programs developed are applicable for the banner.
  • Responsible for Superstores West and Ontario Perimeter Merchandising & Mapping for formats (TBD COS, Fresh, RHS).
  • Responsible for growing market share tonnage based on perimeter mapping.
  • Build & manage all Superstore programs i.e. Events, FREE, DOTW, 18x18, 10 for 10, holiday lifts.
  • Engage with all Promo & Marketing teams to ensure alignment between promo and floor.
  • Engage with all Business Units/Category to support and execute strategies.
  • Engage with all allocations teams to ensure inventory goes to the right stores at the right time.
  • Engage with all operators to ensure mapping locations are maintained especially store renovations.
  • Responsible for all Presentations to major stakeholder i.e. operators, BU, DLT, etc.

Forecasting:

  • Lead the process for all key total store program mapping.
  • Understand historical sales information and projections to inform mapping of items.
  • Take the lead on any forecast or program issues and work with the Category team on resolutions.

Process Management:

  • Manage and develop databases and processes to effectively and efficiently Manage Store Space Classification for Mapping by store to connect seamlessly with the Format allocations team.
  • Manage all Store Allocations Templates.
  • Work with other stakeholders such as Extra Foods, RCWC, Apparel and Optical.
  • Use Data to inform perimeter productivity.
  • Use Data to inform promotional effectiveness for the floor.
  • Use Data and market share information to ensure the right customer experience.
  • Ensure floor plans built to drive required programs and accommodate flow of inventory to optimize sales, profit and enhanced store execution.
  • Liaise with BU/Category teams on new program launches or enhancements, seasonal flips, to ensure clear understanding of objectives and desired execution.

Customer Experience Management (Stores and Customers):

  • Execute all store communication such as pocket guide and execution guides.
  • Execute all postmortem, sales results and sell-through reporting.
  • Coordinate post activity sellout reports to ensure excess inventory is addressed in a timely fashion.

Role Requirements:

  • University degree in business administration, with focus on risk and/or project management as an asset.
  • High analytical and problem-solving skills, process driven.
  • Proven ability to lead a team.
  • Proven ability to develop short and long-term plans in line with corporate strategies.
  • Excellent communicator up, down and across the enterprise.
  • Merchandising and store operations skills are strong assets.
  • Strong cross functional capabilities to leverage BU teams, Allocations teams and store operations.
  • Strong management, negotiation and persuasion skills, optimizing outcomes for all parties concerned.
  • Must be detail oriented and able to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have strong computer skills (specifically Excel and creating pivot tables).
