Some of what you will do:

An exciting opportunity to be the lead source and point of contact in the vendor procurement and compliance specialty realm of our evolving Own Brands department. This position will allow the successful individual to own Staples Canada’s global perspective and cost ownership opportunities. This is a unique role as the approach to cost management opportunities vary dependent on the B2B versus B2C side of the business and are equally important to the success of our total business strategies.

This role allows you to build our reliable and compliant vendor supplier base and assist in managing that relationship alongside the Product Managers. Will also work closely with our Staples US counterparts to be able to leverage their expansive expertise and cost model tools to assist in standing up our own in-house cost management tracking tool. Creation of vendor contracts which will be the backbone of our compliance standards and terms will be crucial to all our long-term partnership successes, and working with our supply chain, legal, and quality assurance representatives will be a required collaboration for this process.

The success of this role will be directly correlated to the success of profitable contribution targets and the foundational vendor base construction, two exciting pillars in the works that this candidate will be able to shape and own from end to end.

Specifically, You Will

• Responsible for the management of Global market trends to actively seek out profit gaining opportunities through negotiations and RFPs within our vendor base.
• Creator of quarterly cost optimization strategy presentations as an integral cog of the Product Manager’s category strategy.
• Monthly reporting of opportunities based on regular check-ins with the live Cost Management Tool owned by Staples US.
• Developer, owner, actioner of a NB vs Own Brand cost shielding file and proposed action plan.
• An engrained resource of the Product Manager’s development process, who will be aware and accountable to action items of each category strategy’s 3-year plans.
• Responsible for creating and owning a vendor mapping file, to showcase our blind spots in liability management by commodity and mitigating those risks by the active seeking of potential new vendors to participate in RFP bids.
• Creator of revised vendor contracts, inclusive of the legal, QA, and supply chain shipment fees and fines associated with Own Brand business opportunities to ensure we are operating on exceptionally clear binding agreements with our future partnerships.
  
  

Some Of What You Need

• Post Secondary degree required, Business/ Finance focused preferred.
• Bonus: negotiation certifications.
• Extensive knowledge of Canadian retail standards, the requirements of a strong contractual agreement for the protection of risk mitigation for all parties.
• In-depth understanding factory audit requirements and the factors that lead to the successful partnership of a large retailer with a direct vendor.
• Minimal 8 years’ experience in the ownership of negotiation of retail goods and cost models.
• Proven experience as a vendor sourcing specialist who can maintain good-standing relationships as the face of the company throughout fair negotiations.
• Experience in cost management tool ownership and translation of market trends to strategic business plans.
