Data & GIS Geologist

Reporting to the Sr. Data & GIS Administrator (Exploration), the Data & GIS Geologist will be mainly responsible for the update and validation of all spatial datasets collected or purchased by the regional exploration offices in North America. Also, as part of the Geo-Information group, this position will assist with the development and implementation of new spatial information systems for the exploration department. The role will also assist the Sr. Database, GIS Administrators and Data Compilation Team with the maintenance and updating of the databases.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Drilling database support: geological laboratory data management, historical data compilation, data validation, QA/QC of laboratory and geological data
  • GIS QA/QC: Validates all Exploration spatial datasets (raster and vector).
  • Geodatabase administration: Supports current Exploration geodatabases - local (File GDB) and corporate (ArcSDE).
  • Satellite Images Administration: Collection, correction and sub-product generation from Landsat, Aster, and Worldview products (among others).
  • File Servers: document organization and file control
  • provides software support where and when required.
  • prepares training materials and tutorials, as well as providing software training to users.
  • other related duties as required.

This position will require period travel to Alamos' exploration sites, which may be up to 30% of your time

Experience

  • Educational background in Geology
  • Professional Geoscientist (P. Geo) registration or eligibility to register
  • Strong knowledge of mineral exploration workflows (Field Sampling/Mapping, Core Logging, Drafting).
  • Knowledge of mineral claims management workflows.
  • Exposure to industry standards such as JORC and NI43-101.
  • Knowledge of satellite image manipulation and administration.
  • Understanding of relational databases is an asset.
  • Strong proficiency with ArcGIS (ArcSDE), ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Field App, Survey123, QGIS, etc.
  • Knowledge or exposure to software packages and applications such as MapInfo, AutoCAD, Geosoft Target, Leapfrog, Micromine, Acquire, IMAGO and SharePoint are considered assets.
  • Python and SQL programming skills will be considered an asset.
  • Experience in designing and delivering training is an asset.
  • Strong attention to details.
  • Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with other employees and contractors using tact, courtesy, and good judgment.
