The HSE Coordinator is responsible for coordinating, monitoring and assessing the procedures, protocols and practices that relate to safety within the region's projects. This includes responsibilities for ensuring implementation, training and understanding of safety procedures, protocols and employee safety through compliance with all corporate, local, provincial and federal workplace laws, rules and regulations. The HSE Coordinator reports directly to the Director, HSE with direction and oversight provided by the Regional HSE Coordinator.

This is a field-based position based on project sites in Vancouver, BC or surrounding area.

What You Will Be Working On

  • Assessing and maintaining worksite safety, environmental, hazard assessment and Occupational Health and Safety standards, procedures and protocols, and ensuring compliance with all local, provincial, and federal laws, rules, and regulations. This includes the creation and implementation of safety procedures and policies as necessary.
  • Coordinating and conducting the training of all branch staff in all safety related programs, e.g.: WHMIS, equipment operation, fall protection, first aid, and forklift training.
  • Monitoring and assisting with safety maintenance programs on all company-owned or rented equipment.
  • Participating in and monitoring the quality and effectiveness of toolbox meetings, training sessions, and safety inspections.
  • Participating in project pre-planning, providing information for tender documentation on manpower and safety, monitoring field sites for productivity and quality of workmanship, and evaluating field staff performance.
  • Conducting onsite orientations, monitoring onsite procedures and work processes, developing safe work practices with site personnel, maintaining personal protective equipment policies and standards, and coordinating safety training for employees.
  • Supporting incident investigations and reports, including health, safety, environment, and damage to property or equipment, and verifying that corrective action has been completed.
  • Conducting audits and inspections of projects and providing assessments to project supervisors.
  • Providing leadership and positive motivation for project staff and company partners, leading by example in achieving excellence and being accountable for results.

What We Are Looking For

  • 2+ years of dedicated Health, Safety, and Environment experience.
  • Previous experience with residential, commercial, or industrial construction.
  • Excellent knowledge of local, provincial, and federal safety laws, rules, and regulations, and Occupational Health and Safety standards.
  • Experience with electrical work is an asset.
  • Proficiency in computer programs including Microsoft suite and other HSE platforms.
  • Positive, self-motivated team attitude.
  • Outstanding people and leadership skills.
  • Excellent time management, organizational abilities, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent problem-solving and planning abilities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License.

As per Section 2 of the BC Pay Transparency Act, this position is eligible for a compensation range of $28 - $38/hour.
