Position Summary :
This role will support the implementation of all strategic initiatives, including the development of the strategy plan, annual plan, and other related deliverables. It will also focus on establishing and reporting on effective operating systems and methods to achieve these plans and longer-term objectives. The Strategy Manager will play a key role in leading the development of strategic initiatives, guiding them from concept to operationalization through the effective application of analytical, project management, change management, and facilitation skills.
The Strategy Manager will report to the Director of Strategy and Planning (“Director”).
The role will engage closely with cross functional teams to develop and implement strategic solutions across a range of areas. This role requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication and presentation development abilities, and a passion for delivering high-impact results.
The role includes oversight and management of the various objectives of the Strategic Plan, facilitating key stakeholders who are accountable for the objective, developing action plans, monitoring the implementation and regular reporting of outcomes, barriers and recommendations to achieve our measures of success.
Responsibilities at a Glance:
Strategy and Strategic Initiatives Development
- Support leading cross organizational efforts to create momentum, cohesion and common set of purpose of our efforts to develop the strategic plan for the integrated organization. This includes developing the operating systems, scorecards, engagement plans and tools to be successful.
- Develop and evaluate strategic options. Develop and maintain strategic plans and roadmaps, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and funding realities.
- Establishes consistent frameworks and processes for project management of all initiatives and provides direction for use among leaders and staff.
- Develops detailed milestone plans related to all strategic initiatives.
- Support the development of proposals and business cases for new programs and opportunities, and with health system partners as opportunities arise.
- Displays high level of health care knowledge, competence and sophistication.
- Demonstrates initiative to carry out assigned responsibilities, keeping constantly alert to strategic planning and/or research/evaluation opportunities, techniques, and approaches preferred and has the ability to anticipate and manage issues proactively.
- Ensures quality & patient safety are paramount within the strategic plan objectives and the development of all project deliverables.
- Participates in Committee, as required
- Contribute to the development of RFI/RFQ/RFP, as required.
- Participate and/or lead in special projects as necessary
- Collaborate with multiple departments, programs, corporate functions such as PMO and partners
- Other duties as assigned.
Strategy and Strategic Initiatives Monitoring
- Manage and monitor strategic plan performance including project logs, issues, action items, risks, change management and escalation.
- Provides leadership and management for Strategic Plan reviews including opportunity identification, planning, and management, facilitation of key stakeholders, implementation and tracking.
- Monitors the deliverables and reports variances on a routine basis to the Director/Executive Sponsor of the strategic plan priorities.
- Establishes and maintains a portfolio approach to the strategic initiatives determined to be organization priorities.
- Reinforces the alignment of projects with the operational & strategic goals of the Health Network – leveraging continuous improvement principles and project management methodologies.
- Ability to effectively communicate complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Collaborate with multiple departments, programs, corporate functions such as PMO (project management office) and partners
Consulting and Synthesizing Recommendation
- Synthesizes data analytics and findings to track progress & present opportunities to senior leadership. Assesses potential risk mitigation strategies and solutions to achieve strategic initiatives.
- Involve stakeholders in the resolution of issues using effective conflict and change management approaches. Escalate to Director/VP as required.
- Develops and presents materials for review and informational purposes using excellent written, verbal and graphical communication skills with ability to express complex concepts effectively.
- Demonstrate, ethical, tactical and critical strategic thinking and working as a catalyst to motivate and adopt new concepts.
- Proactively identify potential new opportunities including funding opportunities and establish mechanisms to nimbly respond to those opportunities as an organization and senior team.
- Analyze industry trends, landscapes, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies impacting the healthcare sector.
- Conduct feasibility studies and business case analyses to assess the viability and potential impact of strategic initiatives.
Coaching
- Guide and mentor team members in their development
- Motivates and influences members of the team to maintain a high level of focus to ensure milestones are met and expected strategic plan objective outcomes are delivered. This will include challenging the process and encouraging stakeholders to explore alternative models/methodologies.
- Lead by example; Encourage responsible leadership within teams and excellence in deliverables
- Be self aware and open to feedback (general and via performance management process)
Position Requirements:
- Undergraduate degree in business, healthcare, engineering or technology (masters degree strongly preferred)
- Three to Five years’ experience collaboratively progressing and tracking the implementation of strategic initiatives
- Experience in consulting with a top consulting firm strongly preferred
- Demonstrated critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead, organize and facilitate cross functional teams to achieve results.
- Must have a proven capability to effectively work with people at all levels of the organization
- Strong analytical skills including ability to collect, analyze and interpret both qualitative and quantitative data.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook. Ability to create spreadsheets, charts and other tool
- Must have a strong understanding of health care sector in Ontario (additionally Canada and other jurisdictions)
- Must have a positive work record; a good attendance record; and a level of physical fitness appropriate for the physical demands of the position
- Successfully able to perform their function in accordance with prescribed standards that focuses on the priority of People Safety and the delivery of the highest standard of Quality Care.
- Demonstrate the physical and mental capabilities necessary for proper and efficient performance of the essential duties of the position.
Preferred Requirements:
- Graduate degree in a health care discipline, engineering, business or other related field
- Strongly preferred: Masters in Business Administration, Masters in Health Administration
- Consulting experience with a top consulting firm with experience in strategic plan development
- Project management experience (and/or credentials) at a large organization
