How the Clinical Assistant supports our teams at Grand River Hospital:
This position will support the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Inpatient Pediatric Unit. Grand River Hospital is seeking applications for a Clinical Assistant who is committed to providing optimal patient care and is dedicated to GRH’s mission of Advancing Exceptional Care.
The Clinical Assistant supports the regulated health care professional with patient care by:
- Providing assistance with personal care needs of patients including preventative skin care and repositioning, hygiene including baths and bed linen changes, grooming and dressing, and elimination and toileting
- Assisting with post-operative ambulation
- Assisting with and attending to special needs of the patients
- Escorting patients to and from diagnostic tests as needed
- Assisting with appropriate levels of supervision of patients including constant observation and post-meal observation
- Maintaining the safety and comfort of patients by ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors and adhering to hospital infection control measures
- Stocking supplies at patient bedsides, stocking feeding carts, isolation carts, and supply carts, and stocking linen cupboards
- Providing comfort to and consoling infant patients, including those experiencing Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome
At Grand River Hospital, our Clinical Assistant will bring the following:
- Successful completion of an approved Health Care Aide Program or Personal Support Worker Diploma/Certification from a recognized program or completion of a 1st year Nursing Program (BScN or Practical Nurse) from an accredited college or university
- CPR certificate at the Heart Saver Level and Standard First Aid
- Code White training
- Previous experience in assisting patients with basic personal care needs
- Minimum of two years of related experience in a health care setting preferred
- Experience with developmental disabilities, mental health and complex behavioural needs is preferred.
- Responsible, energetic individual with above average ability to prioritize and organize in a busy environment
- Knowledgeable regarding the scope of practice for various job categories
- Ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary team, patients, families, and general public
- Basic computer skills
- Demonstrated ability to follow through with requests
- Excellent communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team environment
- Capable of working independently and able to take direction
- Knowledge of principles of medical asepsis and universal precautions
- Demonstrated positive relationships with other health care professionals and able to contribute to the development of an environment conducive to excellent patient care
- Willing to work shifts and flexible hours including nights and weekends
