Job Summary:


We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to support our metallurgical testing and research initiatives. This role is essential to maintaining the quality and consistency of our laboratory operations and ensuring compliance with all safety standards.


The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, exceptional organizational skills, a meticulous approach to laboratory work, and embody core values rooted in collaborative teamwork.


Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Receive, inventory, and prepare metallurgical samples through rock crushing, homogenization, and classification.
  • Conduct precise metallurgical tests such as bottle roll, shake flask extraction, and column testing, adhering to established protocols to ensure reliable outcomes.
  • Maintain and calibrate laboratory instruments to deliver consistent and accurate test results, reducing the likelihood of operational downtime.
  • Record, analyze, and report test results with a strong focus on precision, ensuring data integrity and adherence to quality standards.
  • Promote and maintain a safe working environment by consistently following health and safety protocols and ensuring the laboratory is clean and organized.
  • Collaborate with the research and development team to execute experiments, improve existing processes, and contribute to innovation in metallurgical testing.
  • Pursue ongoing training and development to enhance technical skills and stay informed about advancements in laboratory methodologies and technologies.

  • Demonstrates advanced technical proficiency in conducting metallurgical tests and operating laboratory equipment.
  • Manages sample preparation and data recording with high organizational efficiency.
  • Adheres to strict health and safety protocols, ensuring compliance and a safe work environment.
  • Ability to quickly and effectively acquire and implement new analytical techniques and processes.
  • Effectively communicate and foster collaboration within a multidisciplinary team to successfully achieve shared objectives.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Education: Post-secondary degree or diploma in Metallurgy, Chemistry, or a related field (Chemical Technology or Metallurgical Engineering Technology preferred).
  • Professional Experience: At least 3 years of laboratory experience, preferably in extractive metallurgy or mineral processing.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with laboratory equipment, metallurgical testing, and software tools such as Microsoft Excel and laboratory data management systems. Specifically, previous experience with Benchling and/or NetSuite is preferred.
  • Physical Capability: Ability to safely handle materials weighing up to 50 lbs and operate heavy machinery, such as forklifts and pallet jacks, upon receiving (or proving) appropriate safety training and certifications.
  • Certifications: First-aid, workplace safety, forklift, and pallet jack operation certifications are considered assets.
