The Opportunity
Our Safety and Technical Services Group is currently seeking an Industrial Hygienist to join the Canada Safety Team, based out of our Calgary, AB head office or any of our field offices across Canada. The Industrial Hygienist will provide technical expertise for industrial hygiene related matters across our Canada Gas system and creatively administer and coordinate our Industrial Hygiene Programs.
Reporting to the Manager of Safety, West, this role will support the development, implementation and monitoring our Industrial Hygiene related practices across Canada. The successful individual will possess both strong technical abilities and leadership skills with a proven track record of success in coordinating industrial hygiene related activities within a large corporation.
What you’ll do
- Develop, implement and maintain Industrial Hygiene programs, procedures and compliance training
- Conduct qualitative exposure assessments and pro-actively identify industry health hazards
- Play an active role in the identification of hazards and the implementation of regulatory, health and safety, and other program changes
- Provide guidance and recommendations to business partners, thereby facilitating their decision-making process
- Provide employees with the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and manage occupational health hazards
- Conduct/manage hygiene, hazardous materials and/or safety management projects and training
- Review proposed use of hazardous chemicals and advise on control measures and PPE prior to purchase
- Conduct industrial hygiene exposure evaluations/monitoring using various types of sampling devices/media and equipment
- Coordinate consultants for routine and ad hoc industrial hygiene monitoring
- Review, interpret and communicate related regulatory impacts to the organization
- Review industrial hygiene related incident reports, job hazard analyses and participate in root cause investigations
- Prepare trending and analysis reports, including analysis of hazards and recommendations for corrective actions
- Review engineering and operating processes and procedures to ensure hazards have been identified and addressed
Minimum Qualifications
- Post-Secondary education in a health or natural science-related discipline (e.g. Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, Physiology, Human Factors, Biology, Chemistry)
- 5 years of related work experience in Industrial Hygiene
- Strong knowledge of industrial hygiene and biological/chemical/physical hazards
- Proven ability to produce technical reports, make oral presentations and conduct training sessions
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills to work closely with field teams and management, and coordinate work with other appropriate technical resources
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH), Registered Occupational Hygiene Technician (ROHT) or other recognized designation
- Experience in the Oil & Gas industry
- Familiar with legislative requirements governing industrial hygiene at the federal and provincial levels (CCOHS and other applicable Standards)
This position requires candidates to:
- Have and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract (a record) for review
- This position will involve travel and overnight stays away from home (up to 30% of work schedule during peak work periods)
- Occasionally be available for extended work hours outside of standard business hours, call-out support and emergency support as needed
