Position Overview

Kiewit is seeking an experienced Civil Quality Lab Inspector / Technician to join our team supporting the construction of the Cheekye Debris Flow Barrier in Squamish, BC. This complex project requires experience inspecting Roller Compacted Concrete. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in civil engineering and materials testing, with a proven track record of inspecting and testing materials in a laboratory to ensure quality standards are met.

District Overview

Kiewit’s Western Canada District is headquartered in Burnaby, British Columbia. We primarily perform heavy civil projects specializing in earth moving, transportation, roadways, bridges, water resources, and underground utilities. Location

This is a site-based position located in Squamish, BC. Travel allowance may be provided for the selected candidate.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct tests on construction materials such as soil, concrete, asphalt, and aggregates.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and quality standards.
  • Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment and instruments.
  • Analyze test results and prepare detailed reports.
  • Identify and troubleshoot any quality issues in the construction process.
  • Foster a collaborative and productive work environment.
  • Work closely with project managers and site engineers to ensure quality standards are met on construction projects.
  • Provide technical support and expertise to project teams.
  • Attend project meetings and provide updates on quality control activities.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all testing activities.
  • Ensure all documentation complies with industry standards and regulations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in a quality control laboratory within the construction industry, including experience with Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC).
  • CCIL certified concrete tester is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of materials testing procedures and standards (CSA, ASTM, AASHTO, etc.).
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Proficiency in laboratory software and data analysis tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Certification as a Quality Manager (CQM), and/or a P. Eng or similar is preferred.

  • May work at various different locations and conditions may vary

Base Compensation: $75,000 - $100,000+

  • Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location.
  • Additional compensation or uplifts may be available depending on the project assigned.
