Overview

PLASP Child Care Services is a charitable organization operating on a not-for-profit basis, providing high quality early learning and child care for children up to 12 years of age. PLASP operates in more than 240 schools providing before school, lunch, and after school programs and 30 full-day early learning and child care centres and five EarlyON locations for children from 0 – 6 years

The curriculum for PLASP Centres is based on the HighScope approach, where children develop important skills including language, pre-math, and pre-reading skills. The daily routine allows time for children to explore and learn independently, and for adults to plan structured teaching time. All programming incorporates the Ministry of Education pedagogy, How Does Learning Happen? The PLASP Centres also follow quality initiatives like Raising the Bar, AQI, and PQA.

The Position Involves:

The successful candidate will provide a full range of duties, including:

  • Assists in establishing and maintaining a safe, warm, and caring environment for a high quality child care program.
  • Works cooperatively with the Site Director and Program Staff to plan, develop and implement stimulating activities for young children.
  • Assumes responsibilities for supporting PLASP Programs (Early Learning and Child Care Centres and School Age Programs).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of How Does Learning Happen?, the HighScope Curriculum, and the CCEYA.
  • Follows PLASP Health & Safety policy and procedures, ensuring children's safety at all times.
  • Familiar with all emergency procedures required by PLASP and the Child Care Early Years Act.
  • Ensures regular communication with parents about their child's activities.
  • Attends regular meetings with team, supervisor, and region, as well as the organization’s Annual Meetings.

The Preferred Candidate Will Have:

  • A degree or diploma in Early Childhood Education preferred.
  • Listed in “Good Standing” with the College of Early Childhood Education (RECE) required.
  • Familiarity with the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA).
  • Strong knowledge of the HighScope Curriculum.
  • Valid Standard First Aid Certificate, with level C CPR.
  • All health requirements (immunizations) to be met per CCEYA, Medical Officer of Health, and PLASP.
  • Strong decision making and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent relationship building skills.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and implement activities in accordance with Ministry requirements.
  • Physically able to assist children and move program equipment.
  • A flexible and willing attitude.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant policies and procedures.
