The Bridge Operations Worker, working under the general supervision of the Supervisor of Bridge Maintenance and Bridge Operations Technologists, will perform repair and preventative maintenance to bridge infrastructure.

As the Bridge Operations Worker you will:

  • Perform repairs to bridge infrastructure by following standard protocols, procedures and regulations to ensure the safety and integrity of structures.
  • Perform preventative maintenance to bridge infrastructure by following standard protocols, procedures and regulations to ensure the safety and integrity of structures.
  • Perform repair/installation/maintenance of traffic barrier and roadside safety devices (RSD) under occasional supervision.
  • Operate City of Winnipeg equipment and vehicles in a safe and efficient manner.

Your education and qualifications include:

  • Grade 10 education or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Experience performing labourer duties and providing assistance to skilled trades persons related to concrete, asphalt, woodworking, and steel work in a construction, industrial and/or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience performing installation, general repairs, and preventative maintenance of bridge infrastructure is preferred.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, organized, prioritize, and manage changing priorities to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and establish/maintain a positive working relationship with employees at all levels of the organization, external contacts, and the public.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Conditions of employment:

  • The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Must be able to work standby and overtime, as required.
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time in all weather conditions.
  • Must be physically fit to perform duties of the position, including but not limited to:
  • Lifting and carrying up to 75 lbs.
  • Working at various heights.
  • Working in tight and confined spaces.
  • Working over and/or around water.
  • Standing and working on sloped/uneven terrain for long periods of time.
  • Overhead work.
  • Crouching, bending, twisting, and crawling.
