ROLE PURPOSE

The Financial Analyst – FP&A is responsible for preparing and reconciling month-end and year-end financial records, including journal entries and bank account reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards. Additionally, the position supports internal and external reporting needs by preparing financial reports, variance analysis, and assisting in the development of the annual budget.

REPORTING AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

  • Reports and is accountable to the Senior Manager of Finance – FP&A or their designate
  • Participates as a contributor to the Common Services and Program Teams
  • Liaises with the staff of Connective as necessary
  • Liaises with staff and volunteers of community, funders, and government agencies as required

HOURS (40 hours per week)

Full-Time: Monday to Friday, 0800 - 1600.

Key Accountabilities

  • Prepares month-end and year-end working paper reconciliations: Compiles and reviews all necessary documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records for month-end and year-end close processes, adhering to accounting standards.
  • Prepares month-end and year-end adjusting journal entries: Posts accurate adjusting journal entries at month-end and year-end to ensure the financial statements reflect true and fair values in line with accounting principles.
  • Reconciles bank accounts, as assigned: Ensures the accuracy of cash balances by reconciling bank statements with company records, investigating discrepancies, and resolving any issues promptly. Prepares financial reports for funders: Prepares and submits detailed financial reports to funders, ensuring compliance with their reporting requirements and timelines, and providing transparency into the organization’s financial status.
  • Prepares monthly financial reports for internal staff: Compiles and distributes monthly financial reports to internal staff, providing insights into financial performance and supporting decision-making processes.
  • Prepares quarterly variance reports for internal staff: Analyzes and prepares quarterly variance reports, collaborating with departments and programs to highlight differences between budgeted and actual figures, and offering explanation to assist management in understanding financial trends.
  • Assists with the development of the annual budget: Supports the preparation of the annual budget by gathering financial data, assisting in forecasting, and collaborating with various departments and programs to ensure the budget aligns with organizational goals.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Primarily remote work, with occasional in-person attendance in Vancouver or Fraser Valley when necessary
  • Ability to work independently while remaining an integral member of the finance and common services teams
  • Adherence to Connective policies and procedures
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed based on department needs and schedules

Experience And Skills

  • University degree or diploma in accounting
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or in progress
  • 3+ years of experience in full cycle accounting
  • Knowledge of accounts standards for not-for-profit organizations, internal controls, and financial reporting
  • Familiarity with accounting systems
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel
  • Willingness to learn new skills and contribute to process improvements
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent communication skills (listening, verbal, and written)

Requirements

  • Ability to successfully clear a Vulnerable Sector criminal background check
  • Successful Reference Check
  • CPA designation or in the process
  • Proof of vaccination for communicable diseases may be required as mandated by Government, Health Authority, and/or funder requirements.

Compensation

Annual Salary will be negotiated based on experience and qualifications. This role will also be eligible for Connective's comprehensive Benefits Package.

Important: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada, observe their weekly hours limit if under a temporary or study visa, and provide proof of eligibility if selected for the role.
