The Role:
Are you ready to jumpstart your career in Human Resources with an exciting internship opportunity at Medcan? We're on the lookout for a dynamic HR Intern to join our vibrant team in downtown Toronto. In this role, you'll be an essential part of our HR team, providing comprehensive recruiting services and building a proactive pipeline of top-tier talent to meet our future business needs. As an HR Intern, you'll report directly to the Director of Learning & Development and the Director of Talent Acquisition. You'll gain exposure to key strategic initiatives, such as process improvements, onboarding, social media, vendor management, job board optimization, and campus recruitment. Collaborate closely with our Talent Acquisition and Learning & Development teams to support innovative projects like job description optimization, candidate evaluation, creative recruitment programs (including early talent), and employer branding.
The Accountabilities:
Talent Acquisition (60%)
- End-to-End Recruitment: Drive the full-cycle talent acquisition process, from sourcing to onboarding.
- Innovative Recruitment Strategies: Participate in new and creative recruitment initiatives, leveraging job portals, social networks, professional groups, and campus/early career programs.
- Talent Tracking: Utilize professional networks and job boards like LinkedIn Recruiter, Indeed, and our resume database to track and attract top talent.
- Pipeline Building: Develop a strong talent pipeline for critical and niche roles using CRM processes.
- Candidate Evaluation: Review candidate resumes to ensure alignment with position requirements.
- Interview Coordination: Schedule and coordinate interviews with hiring managers and the Talent Acquisition Team.
- Candidate Communication: Provide timely updates to candidates about their application status.
- Talent Pool Development: Proactively build a qualified talent pool for immediate and future business needs.
- Campus & Early Career Programs: Partner with Campus and Early Career Talent Acquisition support programs.
- Onboarding Support: Enhance the onboarding and orientation process by scheduling, monitoring programs, and engaging internal stakeholders.
- Job Description Revamp: Support job description enhancements to create more compelling templates.
Learning and Development (30%)
- Ongoing Projects: Assist with ongoing projects, such as the Talent Spotlight initiative (specific responsibilities to be determined).
HR Operations (10%)
- Internal Transfers: Manage internal transfer movements, including promotions, transfers, and job title letters.
- Mandatory Training: Track and follow up on mandatory training for employees (e.g., Cyber Security).
- Workday Auditing: Perform weekly audits for new hires to ensure all housekeeping items, such as background checks and profile photos, are completed.
