Our Development Services Department is looking for a dedicated Inspections Manager to join the team.

Position Responsibilities

  • Oversee Building, Plumbing & Gas, and Electrical Inspectors.
  • Ensure compliance with the Alberta Building Code, Safety Codes Act, and the Uniform Quality Management Plan while providing expert guidance to customers and City departments.
  • Lead and manage the Inspections Team, including hiring, training, and mentoring staff.
  • Oversee compliance monitoring to safeguard public health and safety.
  • Conduct field inspections and plan reviews, ensuring permits meet all regulatory requirements.
  • Provide expert code interpretations to architects, engineers, contractors, and homeowners.
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to improve service delivery.
  • Manage financial planning, budgeting, and reporting for the Inspections Team.
  • Maintain and update policies, procedures, and documentation within Cityview.
  • Support IT system upgrades and configuration requests.
  • Ensure a high level of customer service and promote the City's mission and safety culture.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 4 years trades Certification with Red Seal endorsement in a relevant trade.
  • 3 years experience as a trades-person.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Leadership, technical, and management experience in a municipal government setting 3+ years.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Safety Codes Act, City Building Bylaw, Quality Management Program, and FOIP Act.
  • Extensive knowledge/experience in the interpretation of building plans.
  • Strong communication skills including negotiation skills.
  • Political acumen.
  • Conflict resolution skills.
  • Detailed knowledge of permitting software and processes.

Preferred

  • Completion of Safety Codes Officer Certification/Designation.
  • Strong understanding of the Alberta Building & Fire Codes, National Fire Protection Act, Canadian Electrical Code, Canadian Plumbing & Gas Code, Energy Codes.

Hours

The standard workweek consists of an average of 40 hours, with the specific schedule being determined by the immediate supervisor.

Compensation

Starting Salary $50.31 per hour as per the Out-of-Scope Agreement.
