About the role:
The Samsara AI team builds end-to-end AI solutions for our customers as well as core ML infrastructure for Samsara. As a Staff Applied Scientist, you will work with petabyte-scale sensor, diagnostic, video, and text data to solve critical problems for Physical Operations customers. You will collaborate with other scientists and engineers to deliver core product features and optimizations.

In this role, you will:
- Lead design and implementation of AI product initiatives.
- Develop tactical solutions and long-term research.
- Work with petabyte-scale data from customer operations.
- Partner across business units to prototype new AI experiences.
- Stay connected to industry and academic research.
- Champion Samsara's cultural principles as we scale globally.
Minimum requirements for the role:
- Masters or PhD in Computer Science or a quantitative field.
- 8+ years experience in a related role.
- Proficiency in data experiments and model training.
- Experience with Spark, Ray, or similar frameworks.
- Strong coding and machine learning development skills.
- Ability to define problems from ambiguous requirements.
- Experience in coaching and mentoring scientists.
An ideal candidate also has:
- PhD in a quantitative field.
- Record of high-impact deliveries in AI.
- Experience with ML tools and techniques.
