Enterprise Portfolio Analyst

The Enterprise Portfolio Analyst (EPA) is a senior-level analyst role reporting to the Manager, IT Planning and Delivery, and acts as a liaison between NAIT business units, Information and Technology Services (ITS) tech teams, external vendors, and other post-secondary institutions. The EPA analyzes business processes, works to understand business needs, and recommends and implements improvements using technical solutions or process modifications.
The purpose of the work is to bridge the gap between business needs and technology solutions as well as map existing enterprise capabilities to assist in identifying areas of overall corporate improvement.
The EPA collaborates with stakeholders at various levels across the NAIT community to analyze and recommend options for resolving business problems and exploiting opportunities; and facilitates the completion of a full NAIT picture when it comes to enterprise architecture. Further, the EPA develops tools and solutions to communicate strategic priorities and ongoing technology implementation progress back to Executive, Portfolio, and Business Committees to ensure that strategic planning is informed by NAIT's technology and capability road maps.
Work can be complex and requires analytical, detail-oriented thinking and frequent interaction with clients across business units and is carried out independently with minimal supervision. Excellent communication skills are needed to develop effective working relationships with clients, colleagues, and project team members.
The EPA is a strategic partner who seeks to align people, processes, technology, and data to advance business goals. Major responsibilities include providing analysis on enterprise requirements for both process and technological improvements, triage of business department priorities, developing and maintaining the technology and NAIT capability roadmap, and providing improvement recommendations to the ITS client relationship process. Duties require a level of effort dictated by critical deadlines which might require flexible timings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work with Business and Portfolio Committees to gain a deep understanding of business challenges faced and make recommendations on macro process improvement that improves information hand off between business areas and enhances ITS and business department relationships.
- Work with business stakeholders and ITS technical teams to develop and maintain two-way tools that enhance NAIT ITS client communications, inform strategic planning and OKR development processes, and meet enterprise reporting needs.
- Build relationships with business areas to map enterprise capabilities and future technology strategies. Liaise with business stakeholders to translate business priorities into actionable business cases and capital requests. Collaborate on project requests and business case development. Work with business areas to map realized benefits following solution implementation.
- Define, document and prioritize comprehensive requirements on initiatives of varying size or complexity that span multiple business units, technologies or integrations, including those which are large or complex. Establish requirements baseline and ensure traceability to source. Liaise with business areas and vendors to facilitate requests for system or process changes.
- Translate business processes and challenges into detailed mapping to inform strategic planning and OKR development activities. Evaluate design options. Model, simulate, or prototype the behavior of proposed functional process outcomes. Review and verify designs against desired outcomes.
Skills & Abilities:
- In-depth knowledge of business analysis best practices, emerging trends and use.
- A general understanding of Enterprise Architecture, its tools and applications.
- An in-depth understanding of NAIT strategic objectives and key results as they relate to the business.
- General knowledge of continuous improvement principles and an understanding of applicable methodology, e.g., LEAN.
- A general knowledge of computing science and information technology principles and theories.
- Business analysts who hold a professional designation are required to know and apply the appropriate code of ethics/professional conduct. A general knowledge of the system development life cycle (SDLC) and the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) is needed to translate requirements from clients to ITS technical analysts and developers.
- Knowledge of project processes as defined by the ITS project management office (based on the Project Management Institute’s body of knowledge). These are used when the EPA participates in (or leads) IT projects.
Qualifications:
- 5 Years experience with a related degree or diploma.
- Experience directly related to enterprise capability analysis or enterprise architecture is an asset.
Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).
Remuneration: $82,189.64 – $108,886.96 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
