The Youth Hub Coordinator is responsible for creating a welcoming, safe, inclusive, and vibrant space for youth to access the support and services they need to achieve their goals. This person is a natural network-builder who sees potential in youth, community, and partnerships. They develop and enhance relationships with all staff, partners, and community. They work closely with the City Centre Youth Hub Coordinator and share activities, budgets, and planning for all Surrey Youth Services.

The Coordinator brings leadership knowledge as well as a solid background in youth engagement and community development. The drop-in space provides both brief one-on-one support and some longer-term case management, so the coordinator is an experienced youth worker who can quickly build rapport with a wide variety of youth. As a hub for youth services and agencies, the Coordinator is integral in the co-creation of culture and collaboration at the hub.

This position requires working flexible hours into the evenings and weekends.
The successful applicant is also expected to participate in activities with young people such as sports, art, music etc.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and coordinate programming and special events in the resource room to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for youth.
  • Create and distribute monthly programming calendar
  • Work with the manager to facilitate program expansion and partnership development with other local youth service providers.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day program operational budgets and assist with reports
  • Provide advocacy and support to assist youth and their families to access information and support services.
  • Fulfil financial, statistical, and other progress reporting requirements
  • Coordinate and co-chair Centre and OSH staff meetings.
  • Communicate regularly with partners, and develop and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Supervision and support of volunteers and practicum students.

Qualifications

All staff at PCRS are required to pass a Criminal Record Check, including the vulnerable sector check for working with children and vulnerable adults, performed by the Ministry of Justice.

  • B.A. in a related field, or a Child and Youth Care Diploma plus two years' experience or a combination of related work experience/education. Two years of related leadership/supervision experience.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed practices
  • Clear and concise communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Valid B.C. Driver's License - Class 5 or equivalent; successful candidates will provide a clean driver's abstract. Business Use insurance and mileage will be paid.
  • Reliable access to a personal vehicle to use for work purposes.

  • Valid B.C. Driver's License - Class 4 Commercial
  • Bronze Cross certification (for swimming and beach activities)
  • Crisis Intervention / De-escalation training
  • Training to address depression/suicide/mental health assessment
  • Certification in recreation, arts, and youth engagement an asset
