JOB DESCRIPTION - Senior Estimator

Salary- $120,000

Job Summary

Provide accurate bids for tenders of potential and awarded project work that meets or exceeds Avalign Ltd's expectations of profitability and project delivery. Perform all functions and responsibilities in accordance with Avalign Ltd's values and beliefs.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Client Interaction:
    • Respond to client inquiries for pricing project work.
  • Estimating & Takeoffs:
    • Prepare detailed estimates and quantity takeoffs; visit potential work sites as required.
  • Subtrade Coordination:
    • Request, evaluate, and recommend subtrade quotations to ensure accuracy and conformance to project plans and specifications.
  • Material Management:
    • Identify long lead material orders to ensure timely placement.
  • Bid Preparation:
    • Review and finalize bids before submission, ensuring accuracy and competitiveness.
  • Relationship Building:
    • Communicate effectively with Owners and Architects in a professional manner to develop relationships and secure repeat business.
  • Project Planning:
    • Plan construction projects and prepare construction schedules in conjunction with the Project Manager.
  • Collaboration:
    • Work closely with stakeholders, including project managers and executives, to deliver accurate and comprehensive estimates that align with project objectives.
  • Documentation:
    • Process contract drawings and specifications to ensure the construction scope aligns with the latest documents.
    • Identify scope changes between "issued for construction” drawings and "tender” package drawings.
    • Process contemplated changes from the Architect by soliciting subcontractor pricing and ensuring complete scope and reasonable pricing prior to submission.
  • Billing & Cost Control:
    • Prepare and submit accurate progress billings/invoices on a timely basis reflecting all work completed on site.
    • Monitor labour and material costs to ensure the budget is maintained, escalating discrepancies as necessary.
    • Read, interpret, analyze, and forecast project costs to ensure a positive cash flow.
  • Subcontractor Management:
    • Coordinate, manage, and communicate with all subcontractors to resolve issues related to delivery, labour, schedule, and payment disputes.
  • Industry Knowledge:
    • Maintain a thorough understanding of trade unions, their agreements, market trends, material pricing, labor rates, and industry regulations to support accurate estimates.
  • Project Close-Out:
    • Ensure all required documents are prepared, shared, and logged with high accuracy and within required timeframes.
    • Provide complete project close-out documentation, including as-built drawings, manuals, warranties, building permits, etc.
  • Additional Duties:
    • Perform other duties as requested and required.
EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS

  • University or College Degree in Engineering/Construction or Architectural curriculum (or equivalent experience).
  • Gold Seal Certification in Estimating an asset.
  • Valid G Driver's license.

Knowledge, Experience, & Technical Skills

  • Minimum 7 years of related estimating experience in ICI Construction.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including pivot tables and macros).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with CMiC is an asset.
