Purpose of Role: Working out of Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt, and as part of the Naval Information Technology Infrastructure and Communication Group, the IT Systems Specialist will support and contribute to ongoing and future IT projects and initiatives involving a large ecosystem of technologies. You will play an instrumental part in the testing and delivery of technology in a number of areas and interact directly with RCN users, stakeholders and IT support personnel. The position is technical in nature and will address technical work packages that require hands on work with technology, equipment and software, either in a remote lab setting, on a ship, submarine or a RCN data center. The position involves producing a variety of written technical artefacts, such as SOPs, Test Plans, diagrams and completing root cause analysis reports.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interact with clients, the end user and RCN IT groups to understand, extract and develop requirements, pain points, issues and concerns;
  • Provide expertise and guidance to local RCN IT groups at CFB Esquimalt;
  • Produce technical, and reference diagrams/documentation in accordance with the group’s style using established templates;
  • Execute technical Work Packages
  • Act as an escalation point for complex and high impact incidents;
  • Conduct peer review of technical outputs from the team;
  • Prepare and present technical presentation material to internal and external audiences with varying technical knowledge; and
  • Safety First: Demonstrate 100% commitment to our zero harm behaviors in support of our drive towards developing a world class safety culture.

Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:

  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered for candidates that have the ability to perform the objectives above.
  • Industry certifications such as VCA, VCP, MCSA and/or MCSE are an asset
  • Demonstrated technical work experience in the field of IT in technologies (Microsoft Windows Server 2012R2 through 2022 operating systems, Active Directory Domain Services, Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 through 2019, Microsoft DNS, KMS, DHCP, print services, WDS, DFS and IIS, Windows 10 desktop operating system, with knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite including the Outlook client);
  • Ability to work to tight timelines, take on additional responsibilities, and accept and introduce change in a positive manner; Demonstrated experience working well with customers of varying levels of technical expertise
  • Ability to work cooperatively and productively with others to achieve results;
  • You are extremely diligent; excellent communicator and facilitator, and have strong leadership skills; you can write very well in English; you can handle multiple concurrent assignments, are well organized; and
  • Canadian citizenship, with 10 or more years residing in Canada with no periods longer than six continuous months out of country, is absolutely necessary as part of the requirements to obtain a government security clearance to the minimum level of Secret.
