Key Responsibilities
- Involvement in preliminary and detail design.
- Identify and solve complex engineering design issues in order to satisfy clients' needs while adhering to applicable policies, practices, and procedures.
- Complete preliminary and detailed design calculations in order to support engineering recommendations.
- Prepare project estimates, budget, schedules, and execution plans.
- Undertake technical and feasibility studies including site investigations.
- Prepare technical reports.
- Liaise with internal and external clients, including staff, clients, agencies, and sub-consultants.
- Preparation of technical specifications and contract documents.
- Manage budgets and project resources, monitoring progress against budget and forecasted schedule.
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting standards are maintained throughout each project.
- Review the work of junior design staff and complete quality control review for internal technical submissions.
- Stamp and sign engineering drawings and reports under their responsibility (where applicable).
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering with a focus on Structural (Bridge) Engineering.
- Licensed as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario or in the process of obtaining licensure.
- Strong practical knowledge of the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CSA S6), and the MTO Structural Rehabilitation Manual, and relevant design policies standards and specifications.
- 3-5 years of relevant experience related to the key responsibilities of the position.
- Understanding of project management practices and principles is an asset.
- Experience delivering projects with the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) and/or Municipalities.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office suite of tools including, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Project.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of tender, RFP, and RFQ submissions.
- Strong knowledge of the appropriate use of structural systems, materials, and technologies.
- Strong communication skills.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in client relations.
