We are currently looking for a permanent full time Mental Health and Substance Use (MHSU) Clinician to join the Mental Health and Substance Use Access Central-Road 2 Recovery (R2R) team based out of the Kelowna Community Health & Services centre in Kelowna, B.C.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for an experienced candidate with a Master’s degree in an Allied Health, Behavioural, or Social Science field relevant to the position. The successful candidate must have experience working in mental health and substance use, addictions, or any previous experience supporting the patient population Access Central serves (e.g., those with concurrent mental health and substance use conditions and/or those experiencing problematic substance use/addiction) and/or recovery-oriented systems of care.

About this department/Unit:

The MHSU Substance Use Clinician supports Access Central, which is a new regional virtual service delivered by a centralized interdisciplinary team based in Kelowna. This position will support a centralized, regional, coordinated access to substance use bed-based services, including treatment, transition and stabilization, and supportive recovery.

Access Central is a phone line providing seamless and low-barrier support to adults 18+ through their entire substance use care journey. Phase 1 launched June 30, 2025, and Phase 2 went live on September 30 2025. Phase 3 is anticipated in late 2025. From detox/stabilization to substance use treatment and aftercare, Access Central bridges critical transition points with sustained, tailored, and trauma-informed care planning and coordination to support those struggling with addiction.

What will you work on?

The Substance Use Clinician functions as a member of the larger Hospitals & Communities Integrated Services (HCIS) health care team and as a member of a specific MHSU multi-disciplinary team whose purpose is to ensure that persons experiencing substance use problems/disorders or concurrent substance use and mental health problems have access to timely, responsive, evidence based treatment and clinical supports across the continuum of available services.

The Substance Use Clinician provides, at the advanced practice level, assessment, treatment, service coordination and, as required, urgent response to the most complex clients, frequently with co-occurring disorders, who may also have serious functional impairment in the domains of physical health and personal, family, financial, occupational, and social life. The Substance Use Clinician functions as a primary clinician utilizing a variety of specialized treatment modalities/therapies for individuals, groups of clients and/or their families.

Scheduling Information:

Shift times are days and shift times are from 09:00 to 17:00 hours.

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Masters degree from an accredited educational institution in an Allied Health, Behavioural, or Social Science field relevant to the position.
  • Two years’ recent related experience in an alcohol and drug treatment environment or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Current valid B.C. driver’s license (Class 5).
