The Role:

This role will require you to leverage your skills and experience to drive a culture of excellence, focus, and collaboration. As a Controls Engineering Specialist, you'd be expected to help develop and maintain systems in our new state-of-the-art stamping facility.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Perform system testing, troubleshooting, and debugging
  • Maximizing stamping equipment effectiveness to improve productivity and quality
  • Assist in the commissioning of new equipment or upgrading systems
  • Create detailed documentation, including schematics, manuals, and user guides
  • Automate industrial processes to improve efficiency, consistency, and safety
  • Troubleshoot PLC, robot, and other automation problems
  • Update program backups for automation
  • Reprogram automation for engineering changes
  • Increase equipment uptime % and press efficiency
  • Minimize equipment downtime, troubleshoot issues, and implement robust corrective actions
  • Lead and direct team of skilled trade electricians


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • College Diploma or equivalent.


Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as an electrician or technician working with Siemens PLC, controls, and drives.
  • Ability to work all shifts (days, afternoons, midnights).


Preferred Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's in engineering or a related discipline. (Successful candidates will be required to provide proof of degree completion for the highest level of education attained. If the degree was obtained from a school outside of Canada, an Education Credential Assessment report showing Canadian equivalency is also required.)
  • Skilled Trades Certificate of Qualification in a technical field and Certificate of Apprenticeship in mechanics, electrical or a related discipline is preferred.


Experience:

  • Experience in automotive stamping processes.
  • Effective problem-solving skills, including 8D, FMEA and DMAIC methodologies.
  • Fundamental working knowledge of PLC logic and controls (RSLogix).
  • Ability to read blueprints and program Siemens logic for troubleshooting.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley PanelView use/programming, AB Servo and AB VFD drives.
  • Familiarity with VFD’s, Armor starts, encoders, network/Ethernet controls.
  • Proven leadership behaviors combined with effective analytical, interpersonal, team-building and communication skills.
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot body equipment and continuously evaluate equipment for quality and delivery improvements.
  • Experience with Fanuc robots.
  • Ability to interpret and modify electrical schematics and AutoCAD drawings.
  • Exposure to simulation modeling.
  • Knowledge of constraint management principles, Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma.
  • Experience with Lean Tools, including, 5S, Kanban, Poka-yoke, and Value Stream Mapping.
