Your Opportunity:

The LPN in the NICU provides safe and competent patient care for neonates at various stages of their stay. The LPN uses the principles of family centered care to provide care for the sick neonate. The LPN participates actively in patient care decision making, particularly within the multi-disciplinary team on patient care rounds. The LPN encourages parents to actively participate in the delivery of patient care, facilitating their efforts to do so effectively and safely. The LPN has extensive knowledge base to initiate and facilitate breastfeeding the at risk newborn. The LPN is responsible for processing and carrying out orders (within their scope of practice) in a timely and efficient manner, as well as communicating to others effectively that orders have been completed. The LPN communicates changes to the interdisciplinary team in an effective and timely manner, through appropriate channels on the unit and through Connect Care. Description: The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team, collaborating on the delivery of holistic, comprehensive care and support to patients/residents and families. The LPN must be able to team lead effectively on their own. The LPN works to the full scope of practice in providing safe, quality care in accordance with established standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the AUPE Auxiliary Nursing Collective Agreement.

    Required Qualifications:

    Required Qualifications: Graduate of a Practical Nursing program or recognized equivalent required. Active registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) required. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required.

    Additional Required Qualifications:

    Recent Acute Care Experience Required.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Recent level 2 NICU experience preferred. Recent postpartum experience will also be considered. Certificate in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) preferred.
