Opportunity
We are seeking a dynamic Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) to join our HR team. In this strategic role, you will partner with leaders to align workforce strategies with organizational goals, drive change initiatives, and foster a culture of collaboration and inclusion. You will also lead labour relations, talent acquisition, and complex HR challenges that shape the future of MacEwan University.
Key responsibilities include:
- Forging influential relationships with senior executives, managers, and subject matter experts within the assigned client portfolio and other HR shared services providers to deliver a multi-disciplinary and holistic approach to the issue resolution process;
- As a valued member of the assigned department leadership team, seeking to understand their unique operational needs and challenges to provide impactful HR leadership and to apply an HR lens to the business’ decision-making processes;
- Functioning as a trusted advisor to senior leaders and providing strategic HR advice, keeping clients abreast of relevant HR issues and emerging items of importance for review and consideration;
- Acting as a change agent to drive institutional change with leaders and support change management initiatives including organization design and transformation projects;
- Using a systems thinking approach, identifies current and future workforce needs and leads and/or brokers solutions for the client by developing and implementing specific strategies and initiatives;
- Providing consultation to managers on a variety of strategic, operational, and/or complex HR initiatives and solutions;
- Supporting clients with talent sourcing by providing guidance and consultation on various phases of the talent acquisition cycle;
- Facilitating the application, which includes interpreting, applying and ensuring compliance with our collective agreements (MacEwan Staff Union and Grant MacEwan Faculty Association), Out of Scope handbook, MacEwan policies, and relevant legislation;
- Conducting workplace investigations and grievance management, including facilitating the process, drafting reports and providing recommendations, while supporting managers in implementing recommendations made from investigations and workplace assessments; and
- Providing guidance, advice, and coaching to managers regarding performance management, including probation review and discipline.

- The proven ability to efficiently collect, analyze, integrate, and interpret complex information from diverse sources and viewpoints;
- Strong collaboration, facilitation, consultative, consensus building and conflict management abilities to resolve complex issues;
- The ability to inspire trust, build meaningful connections, and establish collaborative working relationships with partners and stakeholders in the HR system to ensure effective, cooperative, and streamlined delivery of HR programs and services;
- Superior interpersonal skills and ability to effectively manage and lead work groups;
- Proven project management, portfolio planning, change leadership and organizational skills; and
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including report writing and presentation skills.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A bachelor’s degree in arts, business, human resources, labour/industrial relations, or other related discipline.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a unionized workplace with more than 1 collective agreement.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in resolving labour relations issues and formal grievance handling.
- Experience completing workplace investigations and preparing recommendations and reports.
- Experience in talent acquisition, including candidate sourcing.
- Experience in providing advice and strategic HR consulting services to senior-level management.
- Demonstrated experience implementing complex, strategic, institution-wide plans, programs, and initiatives.
- Experience managing multi-disciplinary projects that may be politically sensitive and complex.
- Experience developing and managing complex, multi-dimensional relationships.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
