Flato Markham Theatre operates five performing arts camps which run concurrently. Kinder Theatre Camp for ages 4-5, Junior Stars Camp for ages 6-7, Rising Stars Camp for 8-9, Drama Camp for ages 10-12 and Perform for the Big Screen for ages 12-15. The Junior Stars, Rising Stars and Drama Camp programs work both individually and in cooperation to rehearse and perform a musical play that is specifically adapted for children. A fully staged performance is planned for the last day of camp on the Flato Markham Theatre stage.
Kinder Theatre Camp is an introduction to the performing arts for younger campers. Each day they will learn songs, dances, and lines for a play specifically written for their age group. The days are rounded out with games, crafts, and other activities. Kinder Theatre Camp has a performance on Friday afternoon, during regular camp hours. Supervisors in this program require a background in the performing arts experience working with young children and managing staff or volunteers.
Perform for the Big Screen is designed to gain experience in both performance and creative skills in the Performing Arts, TV and film. This camp explores various screen acting techniques including scene work, character development, choreography and singing. Campers collaborate to create a filmed showcase to be presented on the prestigious stage of the Flato Markham Theatre. This camp is designed and implemented by professional performing artists in the industry. Supervisors in this program require a background in the performing arts or TV/Film and experience working with young children and managing staff or volunteers
All March Break camps are one-week in length.
Job Description
The Admin Supervisor manages the administrative duties for the Theatre Camp Programs. Ensures that policies and processes are in alignment with City of Markham, such as staff orientation, training and scheduling, program registration, planning, delivery, evaluation, camp safety and parent/guardian communication. Under the supervision of the Artistic Director and Discovery Coordinator and Camp Director, manages administration of camp documentation, reporting, inventory and camp supplies.
Accountable for day-to-day operations under the guidance of the Discovery Coordinator and Camp Director, ensuring camp activities are safe, educational, inclusive, high quality and meets the Theatre’s overall goals.
Camp Admin Supervisors will primarily focus on camp administration and will work directly with the Camp Coordinator, they may need to enter programming for staff break relief. Those interested in this position will be assigned to supervise Before and After Extended Care Hours and camp programs as needed.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Maintains and reviews camp documentation, including registration information, permission and waiver forms, attendance records, incident reports and timesheets. Ensures all forms are complete prior to campers being dropped off on the first day of camp. Follows up with any unclear information documented on participant information forms. Disseminates pertinent information (eg. Allergies) to Camp staff directly over seeing that camper in a timely manner.
- Reports all incidents promptly and thoroughly to the Discovery Coordinator and Camp Director using incident/accident report forms and processes. Maintains camp documentation, including registration information, attendance records, permission and waiver forms and timesheets. Assists with planning of staff orientation, enrolment and scheduling with the Artistic Director and Discovery Coordinator.
- Assists with planning and implementation of camp staff training. Plays a role in camp preparations as well as staff meetings.
- Oversees and participates in the before and/or after care program
- Prioritizes child well-being, safety and protection throughout the camp(s). Evaluates situations for potential risks to the safety, protection and well-being of campers and staff, proactively taking mitigating actions to address such risks.
- Acts as a leader role model, fostering a positive, creative and open learning environment where people feel included as members of a team and are motivated to work towards common goals.
- Serves as an ambassador for the Corporation of the City of Markham, liaising with Head Program Instructors, Camp Specialists, Camp Counsellors, and resolving any issues with the support of the Artistic Director and Discovery Coordinator. Displays a heightened sense of customer service.
- Provides regular updates and feedback to the Artistic Director and Discovery Coordinator.
- Ensures adherence of policies and procedures working closely with other Head Program Instructors to ensure consistency under the guidance of the Discovery Coordinator.
- Assists with the distribution and ensures completion of parent camp evaluations/surveys as well as staff evaluations of camp.
- Controls supplies and equipment inventory, ensuring that all necessary supplies and equipment are ordered and received in accordance with City policies.
- Assists and supervises the production and sale of camp merchandise such as T-shirts,etc.
- Supervises camp purchases and budget in accordance with City policies and budget including generating revenue and expense reports under the supervision of the Artistic Director.
- Demonstrates the confidence and ability to make decisions independently of peers and in the best interests of the campers. Resolves problems and conflicts effectively as they arise.
- Responsible for attendance records as well as leading the sign in and out process for all of the camps. Responsible for contacting all absentee campers’ parents/guardians in a timely manner.
- Demonstrates effective and efficient communication to all stakeholders including parents, campers and staff including camp newsletters and notes under the supervision of the Artistic Director.
- Supports staff break scheduling and coverage through effective coordination and programming assistance.
- Attends special events (Performance evening) as required.
- Other duties as required.
- Minimum 18 years of age or older at start of employment
- Currently enrolled in, a post-secondary institution in Theatre Studies, Arts Administration, Education or related field is an asset.
- Previous camp experience demonstrating leadership capabilities.
- Experience in program planning/delivery and knowledge of child development. Confident in teaching various ages and skill levels.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills required
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, etc…)
- Current Standard First Aid with CPR ‘C’ required
- HIGH FIVE certificate in Principles of Healthy Child Development is required
- HIGH FIVE Quest 2 is an asset
- Vulnerable Sector Check
- All required certificates must be in good standing by February 13, 2026 and valid for the duration of employment.
