About Us
Western University's BrainsCAN initiative received a substantial $66 million investment from the Canada First Research Excellence Fund (CFREF) – the largest research grant in the university's history – providing a significant boost to ongoing research in cognitive neuroscience and imaging at Western.
The goal of BrainsCAN is to significantly reduce the impact of cognitive disorders across the lifespan. To do this, our scientific approach will identify how cognitive markers map onto specific brain networks using our state of the art behavioral and imaging platforms.
Already ranked amongst the best in the world in cognitive neuroscience and neuroimaging,Western excels in the breadth of cognitive, computational, clinical, technological, and translational approaches required for understanding and intervening in brain function.
Western will partner with researchers at McGill University to leverage complementary expertise to better understand disorders such as Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, traumatic brain injury, and schizophrenia.
Responsibilities
Purpose of the Role:
The Research Administrator (RA) provides support in coordination of research projects by assisting the Mouse Translational Research Program Manager. The role will be accountable for coordinating meetings, taking minutes and overseeing research project budgets including monitoring expenditures to ensure compliance with the research plan and funding agency guidelines. The RA will assist the Program Manager with timely coordination for data collection, recording, management, analysis, and reporting to ensure milestones and project deadlines are met.
Key Accountabilities:
- Supports coordination of administrative, financial, and logistical functions involved in the processof conducting the research project
- Assists in developing project workflows, plans, and progress reports for various stakeholders,and ensures research projects remain on schedule and within budget
- Ensures that the research projects comply with current internal and external research policies and privacy practices
- Supports application processes for ethics and funding
- Communicates with other related departments and stakeholders on needs, institutional policies, procedures, etc. and coordinates resources to resolve issues as needed
- Oversees budgets and research accounts, tracks expenditures, and ensures compliance with research plan and funding agency guidelines
- Explores opportunities for improved efficiency, provides suggestions and feedback on policies and procedures, and implements new processes within the lab
- Assists with grant reporting (scientific and financial)
Skills, Abilities & Expertise:
- Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
- Personable and courteous in working relationships with colleagues, students and the public
- Ability to multi-task and maintain an organized and effective personal work environment
- Familiarity with methods for research design, implementation, and analysis
- Familiarity with knowledge mobilization and research communications planning
- Computer skills with the ability to learn and use software programs
- Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat
- Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team
- Verbal and written communication skills with the ability to transcribe, review and format scientific information
- Project management skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines and perform well under pressure
- Familiarity with Western University research in areas including Alzheimer’s disease and dementia an asset
Education:
- Undergraduate degree in a relevant area of focus
Experience:
- 3 year(s) of work experience supporting research in a related field
